I saved a man's life today

This morning I got a phone call from an unknown number. When I attended the call it was a male voice who sounded completely agitated. Our conversation was thus: Me: Hello Harried Man(HM) : Is this Tiara? (Tiara is my smart casual boutique) Me: Yes, How can I help you? HM: I'm Sri. My wife had visited your store yesterday. She was talking about a particular sari (a traditional attire) she liked at your store. A pink one with...err...golden peacock design.. Me: Yes. HM: Can you please deliver it to my house today and tell her its a surprise? Me: We do not do home deliveries. HM: Its a special occasion. Me: But there is no one to take care of the store right now. Can you ask her to come by later? I'll hold the sari. HM: She can't. (A sheepish pause). Today is our wedding anniversary and I forgot to get her a gift. I'll pay you when I come back from office.I can't go back home tonight otherwise. Pleeeeease. Me: ???!!!! You might have guessed what I did next. How do you celebrate special occasions like anniversary or birthday? Have you ever forgotten a big day? If yes, how did you manage the situation?

@TheHorse Certainly that isn't the reason she moved to Michigan?

Very sweet of you to deliver. Did you end up closing your shop to go drop off the surprise? Did he repay you?

@Scindhia You are very nice! And honest too - to believe a man over the phone will pay you! He definitely owes you hehe.

I closed the store for an hour, located the address and dropped off the surprise. The happy smile on the wife's face was worth the trip! He paid me around eight in the evening.

@Drosophila A sari is just a piece of cloth wrapped around the body aesthetically. There are no size issues in such a costume. She was very happy and surprised.

No, I went myself and delivered it and wished her a very happy anniversary. I wanted to see her reaction to the surprise.

I imagine that you delivered to save the man life. We never exchange gifts with my husband for our wedding anniversary. Last Wednesday it was my birthday and he bought a gift for me, it's quite unusual, but I appreciated.

@Scindhia We do not celebrate special occasions with gifts, we usually have a nice dinner together. You should know that we are married from more than 40 years, we do not need to exchange gifts anymore.

Nice of you to deliver especially since he didn't even pay you for it yet. It could also be that he purchased something else that maybe the wife wouldn't like so much, or his time to shop was waylaid or anything. I've had many times when I remembered a special occasion weeks in advance, but when the day finally came, forgot to say anything about it.

Local stores have that advantage. People treat us well most of the time. There are definitely those odd instances where we get cheated too. By and large, we are loved
