So even though it was chilly yesterday we decided to do something, we first went to the store in Mountain Lake and I bought a few more books. Then we saw the sign for Wilder and thought we had never been there so decided to go and see what it had there well not much for a population of 60 except for the Elk and Horses. Yes, I did say Elk. I did take a picture of the elk but it was not an up close shot so you may have hard time seeing them. They were fenced in a high enclosure so I am assuming someone is raising them. I had my big dog Honey with me and she just sat and watched them.

I know of a place in central Missouri that had a elk...farm? Herd? Was fun to drive by and see as I cut that way now and then

@Jessicalynnt I was amazed because I had no idea there were any around here but it was interesting. I guess you would call them a herd. I will definitely go that way again to show my son.

@Marcyaz they really remind me of more domesticated deer

I was not aware that elks were ever raised in this way and always considered them to be wild only.

@Marcyaz It would be great to see because they are quite timid in the wild and probably very hard to spot as a rule.

@Asylum I was not aware of this either but now we have both learned something new.

@Marcyaz Elk are so beautiful and big. I was a bit afraid when I saw them, as I was so close to them high up in the mountains here a long time ago.

Would they be farmed for meat perhaps or for their antlers?

@JudyEv I have no idea as I never knew they were bred in captivity, I always thought they were in the wild. Good question though I am going to do some research on this.

How sweet. I would have loved to have sit there and watched them. I've never seen a elk before. I mean in person.

We have a wildlife preserve nearby that has bison and elk on a huge property. Closer is a rancher who is raising elk. They are very interesting to see. They are fenced in but it is near the highway.

@GardenGerty It is interesting to see the elk as this was my first time seeing them other than on TV. Bison I have seen up close and even felt their hide. There is a place somewhere near here that raises Bison but I haven't been there yet as I do need to find out exactly where it is located.

I've never seen an elk. I wonder what they raise them for? Do people eat their meat?

@jaboUK From what I understand some people do eat elk meat. I never knew that people raised them under yesterday.

@JohnRoberts No just someone raising them evidently as there was a lot of property and a very high fence around there.

I thought I would get a zoomed view of your image when I opened it in a new tab but it is the same size. We can see some animals there.
