Texting the Wrong Person

This afternoon I saw I missed a text this morning. I read it, and answered, and included an apology for missing the text. It was a couple of hours later when the same person texted me that I realized I hadn't been speaking to the person I thought it was. Luckily, the person who I responded to had no idea I had their identity wrong. The only thing I regret is using the word "crap". I got it wrong because the person who texted me, and the person I thought it was both had similar numbers, and both are fairly new to my acquaintance, and to my phone. So their name wasn't attached to the number when I looked at the text. It will be now!

I have done that and it was my son I sent the wrong text too. Glad it wasn't something I didn't want him to know. He just laughed at me.

I think it happens. However, we also need to be careful. What if the text message is in the form of secrecy that should never be told to others.

There was nothing secretive about the text, or my response. So, no worries.

Thankfully the only people I really text are the ones that live in my house. Although I have occasionally sent a text meant for my husband to one of my children instead. It's never been anything bad, but it still ends up being confusing to the kids!

I saw a commercial for some reality show and the guy had sent a picture of his "you know what" to who he thought was his girlfriend, but went to his mother. Serves him right, I guess. Why people do that I don't know. People get hacked all the time and those pictures never stay private.

@AmbiePam True, I'd never send sensitive information through a text.. although I did once text my husband a picture of his credit card because he needed the #.. but I quickly deleted the text and so did he.

It could have been a lot worse, couldn't it? At least it wasn't anything too personal.

It's good that I'm pretty boring, as are 75% of the people "in" my phone. And I'm very glad I don't ever curse.

Oh I remember a story similar to this and it ended badly. That is why its best to slowly reply to people and to watch out the words we type and sent to people.

@AmbiePam the story I remembered was about a person texting somebody about a certain person that he didnt like because of blahblah and he sent it to the person itself. So yeah it did smell trouble.

One of the first things I do when I get a new number is attach a name. Even if I don't know the last name, I come up with something. Like Diana "Taxes" a woman who does our taxes or Liz "Math" a fellow math student I exchanged numbers with so we could set up a time to study. That way I know for sure who I am texting or who is texting me.

I did that once. I thought I was texting a girlfriend and was telling her that our son's girlfriend was going to Poland because a family member passed, and I was actually texting a co-worker (the HR manager) at my husband's workplace! She was so gracious and texted me back passing on her and her husband's condolences, but it was strange and I was so embarrassed. I guess that just goes to show that it happens to all of us!

I have done that too and was so happy I did not write anything very bad. That taught me a lesson to be extra careful what I write all my text messages because you can not take it back.

I've experienced sending the wrong message to a wrong person many times and i am just thankful that those messages are not confidential or controversial.
