The Newell city water tower was right in back of our grade school building. There was a tall fence around it but holes here and there. Puppy love almost got me in serious trouble as I had a litle nine yr old crush on this boy in our class who had more g uts than brains. So yes I followed him half way up the ladder on hat tower when I saw my teacher and some police and firemen talking and I almost fell getting down those 7 steps. Kenny had got most of the way up then looked down and froze. They had to get the firetruck with the escalating ladder. Afireman went up and got him in the cherrypicker basket ad brought him down. Oh my he got in more trouble and then they beefed up the fence so we could not crawl over it or under it.Kenny was made to stay home for six weeks and his parents were fined a thousand dollars.

that was...a lot of money back then. I would have just made the kid do community service with a parent
