Fun Facts: Siberian Tiger

Isn't he beautiful? Did you know that a full-grown Siberian tiger can eat over 100 pounds of meat for one meal? And they need to eat over 20 pounds of meat every day, especially in cold weather, just to survive. The gestation period for Siberian tigers is about three and a half months, and usually there are up to six cubs born. The cubs nurse for about five or six months, even though the mother brings them meat at just three months. They start hunting on their own at less than a year old and stay with their mother for three to five years before looking for their own mates. The record weight of a Siberian tiger was almost 850 pounds. They can grow from 9-12 feet, head to tip of tail. Their natural lifespan is up to 25 years. All five remaining species are on the endangered species list. Three species are already extinct. Picture by Pixabay

Quite lovely, but I hope I never run into one in the wild. I weigh about 180, and would probably be a perfect meal.

You will be surprised to see the videos on "BlackJaquarWhiteTiger" web site. The director there plays with the big cats and they lick his head and chew on his fingers. I hope he never gets hurt by them. They are wild animals that his organization has rescued from circuses and other sources.

I had come across and very close to these beautiful creatures in Subic ( former U.S.base) jungle safari, you take a Filipino style jeep designed like a cage and you go inside this large tiger reservation. You have the option for a minimal fee to buy dressed chicken to feed the tigers. The tigers are no longer afraid of the jeep's engine cause i think they would interpret this as food and has become so friendly with people , I saw the tiger ate the dressed chickens as if it were eating peanuts., at times it would even go on top of the jeep or would rub on the sides much like a cat Everyone coming to the Philippines should see Zoobic, you also get a chance to get real close to a caged Siberian, Bengal. and cross breeds between the 2 types of tigers, thank goodness they have bred them their to increase the dwindling tiger population

@IreneVincent Subic is actually the name of the place where the former U.S. bases once stood, and would you believe it's bigger than Singapore. Inside Subic are many themed parks like an Ocean park where submarines use to dock etc... Zoobic is just one of those attractions inside Subic. I even went to a jungle survival course there where Aetas (their sons now) who taught U.S. green beret jungle survival during the Vietnam war would be glad to teach you basic as well as advanced skills. yes I will check out the website you provided

@louievill OK This must be a HUGE place. It sounds like a really nice park with lots of different attractions. Bigger than Singapore is BIG for a theme park.

Thank you for this information. I had NOT heard of this Zoobic place before. Or is it Subic? I would have loved to have taken the jeep ride you mentioned. Have you ever gone to the "BlackJaquarWhiteTIger" website. It's a rescue program for big cats and other animals. They feed their cats chicken necks by the ton. The cats are fat and healthy.

Some people do have big cats as pets, but it could be a dangerous situation, because they ARE wild animals, and a person never knows what might happen that would cause the cat to attack even their owner. One day wild animals will be tame again. Isaiah 11:6-9 says that "the wolf will actually reside for a while with the male lamb," and the "kid and the leopard itself will lie down and the calf and the maned young lion and the well-fed animal together," "the cow and the bear themselves will feed" and the "lion will eat straw just like the bull." "They will not do any harm or cause any ruin in all my holy mountain because the earth will certainly be filled with the knowledge of Jehovah as the waters are covering the very sea."

An absolutely beautiful animal. I love the big cats. The crazy thing about the big cats is if you watch them, they act with the same mannerisms as our little pet cats.
