Great news. Yes I am due some good in life. A couple months ago I was told that I needed a root canal because of a dead root and infection. I took antibiotics and got a referral to go back to UAB dental school, that is where I got all my teeth fixed, I had to wait an hour because I was a walk in but that was okay. I needed the exam first and I knew that. The young dentist looked at my teeth and the old x-ray and done his own, because they always do there own, And he said he sees nothing wrong in the x-ray so he did the cold touch test. Using this stuff and a q tip, he touched each tooth and when I felt the burn of the cold to tell him and if it continued to hurt. No bad teeth! He said that grinding my teeth while sleeping is probably why I have a pressure pain from time to time. And what the other dentist seen as a swollen place on my jaw is actually a jaw muscle, again this is caused by grinding my teeth. I am one happy woman!

That sounds great, although I wonder why the other dentist didn't examine his findings more closely. I'd almost want another opinion to be sure, but if your tooth is infected the pain will be different than it is from grinding. I've had one molar that's been bothering me recently and I've come to the conclusion that I might be doing something similar. A few years ago the whole side of my face hurt after a while. It took several months before I realized that I must have been hitting the teeth on that side of my mouth, probably during my sleep. I don't think it's from grinding. Since then, I readjusted how I keep my teeth aligned when awake and am usually able to continue that way when sleeping. It looks like I'll have to pay attention to it again for a while to see if I notice myself doing this.

@andriaperry Well at least if it's a teaching hospital, they should be up on the latest of everything.

UAB is a teaching hospital/ dental. They always do their own tests but they did look at the referral and picture.

There is no pain, its just the drilling and they use this small tool that breaks off the root in sections till its all out. Usually a crown is needed afterward but not always.

Amazing! So you do not need a root canal then? If so that is excellent news. I personally need a root canal....maybe I should get a second opinion!!
