Homemade/Handcrafted gifts....yay or nay ?

Say for example you went out of your way to buy someone a very extravagant gift. Mind you, this person had no idea you were doing this, and this person has a very limited income, so she makes a homemade gift for you, not thinking anything is wrong with the idea. Would you get offended that you were given a homemade/handmade gift after you spent so much on a store bought gift for them ? Or would you be happy that you even got anything at all ? Personally I think that homemade gifts mean more because they are made with love and lots of thought and time. I know when I set out to make someone a gift, I put alot of planning in to every detail of it, and not to mention the time I am putting in to make it, which, being a single mom, that's time I could be using to be doing something with my daughter. Maybe that's just me, I cherish handmade gifts moreso than store bought ones, (well depending what it is and who its from), but what do you all think ?

My mother was a crafter and she would give a handmade gifts as presents. They are something to be cherished as they mean more than what someone picked up at a store. This person, as you said, would have to spend time thinking of it, designing it, and making it. With this also being said, I'd also appreciate a handmade gift that someone bought, maybe they didn't necessarily make it but someone had by hand and these things can be expensive to buy.

yes I completely agree, I love when friends buy me handcrafted things, especially by crafters in my area to help out the local economy.

@Chispa514 Definitely! I buy from etsy but try to shop as locally as possible. We have all sorts of craft fairs around, especially starting here soon and stretching to September. I don't attend them very much, but we used to go to them all the time as children with my mom. I love locally sourced honey, jams and spreads!

@ScribbledAdNauseum I just recently got in to polymer clay, and I've been creating crafts and selling them at church bazaars and via friends who have shown off my crafts to people they know. I don't make much yet, but I at least make back the amount I spent on materials, so I break even and not losing out on any money. Once I get better at it, I may even start selling them online via etsy and ebay

Heavens no, I would not be offended. I knit and do needlework so I know how much time and effort it takes to create something. Call it "Hand crafted" instead of hand made and it sounds a lot more "uptown." People pay very good money for hand crafted things. Take a peek at Etsy!

i'm big on sentimental things and actions. I'm a highly emotional and sensitive person. I am also an empath. When someone goes to the trouble of making a gift i think it's wonderful! I believe they are more heartfelt than anything with a price tag. That is our problem we are materialistic as a society. holiday = gifts, birthday = gifts, grading school = gifts, you did as you were suppose to do = gifts. sorry on a rant lol i think if someone was un appreciative of the gift and the time and effort than obviously in this day and age you don't need me to tell you my loving sister that whomever the ungrateful tart is needs to scat!
