I have a grown son, who can be sweet, recently gave me 100 bucks to put toward my car repairs,,but is always hurting my feelings. He told me a few weeks ago he would come here for mother's day, then said oh I thought it was the next weekend..sure..! I said well maybe I will come up there, and he said, oh I might be hanging out with Jenn) (his girlfriend)...She is not his mother! and he never wants me around her,, anyway,,he insulted my house..and keeps bugging me about selling it..even though I told him I need some help to get it ready..and keeps telling me I should go back with his step dad..my former husband..even though I have made that clear I don't want to do that. I just don't know what to do about him. I would just withdraw totally...but I dont want a total estrangement.and from what I know..distance makes it worse..I just want a normal relationship...even if I try to stick to neutral topics..he brings up going back with his stepdad. I feel like Rodney Dangerfield...I don't get no respect! Anybody else have a problem child or am I the only one cursed in this way?

I dont see him as a problem child, he`s a grown up and there is nothing wrong choosing to spend mother`s day with his girlfriend.Sure any day everyday is special so do not look at not spending time on mothers day as a be all end all. He`s grown up, let him make his choices otherwise you`ll be a controlling, needy mum(in his opinion) Try to give him some space, welcome him when he comes any day not on a specific day.Why does he insist you get back with your X? does he feel you might give him some space if you were not alone? Just my opinion

ok well, in our family mothers days were always spent with my grandmothers. I would spend mothers day with my mom if I was nearby. I don't think it has anything to do with being controlling or needy. It is not like I call him every week and ask him to do things for me...It isn't like that at all! I guess you are right.the day isnt sacred...but other people spend the day with their mother...I already didn't see him for Easter...I mean would it kill him?? really??

@snowy22315 I think he thinks he wouldnt have to worry about me, if I was with the ex...but I have had it with the ex quite frankly, reason he is an ex!

I believe that every child wants the best for his parents. Yes, although not all children are so.

I believe that he cares about me in his way, but I don't feel I deserve to be treated like gum under his shoe.

Why does he want you back with his stepdad? Will it take some responsibilities off him?
