With one dollar we can get two loaves of bread or a kilo of bananas, milk around 2 litres. It can take one by an auto for a 5 km ride. There are a few vegetables also that come under that price including a few fruits. an ice cream cone. What can you buy with that one dollar from myLot?

Bananas are $0.59 per pound here, so I could get almost two pounds for $1. I could buy a bag of reduced produce from the grocery store for $0.98. What's in them varies from day to day. Today they had bags of either 3 bell peppers or 4 yellow onions. A few days ago I got 4 pomegranates in one bag, and yesterday they had bags that were overflowing with tomatoes. At regular price, I could usually get a pound of apples; we have several types that are usually on sale for $0.99 per pound. When the sales are good, it can buy a pound of chicken thighs or drumsticks. I can't buy a loaf of good bread for $1, but the cheapest store brand is often on sale for that price. Milk is over $1 for all of the sizes except the very smallest, which I think is 12 ounces. The pickup charge for all of the local taxi companies is at least $2, so no rides here. Several of my orchid plants cost only $1. They were marked down at the grocery store because their pots were broken or the blossoms were past their prime. The normal price for those would be $9 each. There's a chain of stores here called Dollar Tree that's famous for having nothing that costs more than $1. They sell all sorts of things, from cleaning products to dishes, coloring books and seasonal items like flower leis and grass skirts. I like to visit there for little trinkets for the kids--I found cute boxes and snow globes to give them for Valentine's day, and a lot of the items in their Easter baskets this year came from there. The last time we went as a family, the kids demanded that I buy them shovel and rake toys so they could help with the garden.

That's a good point. One dollar at the moment equates to 68 pence, which is exactly right for 1 kg of bananas! (same as you). But funnily enough it would only buy about half a loaf of cheap bread, or not quite 2 pints of milk.

Wow! Really? In India? Two loaves of bread? A kilo of bananas? 2 Liters of milk? Sorry for repeating those. It's just a bit unbelievable in my place. With a dollar we can probably buy one loaf of bread. With one dollar it's impossible to buy a kilo of banana. Less than a kilo is possible. It couldn't buy even a liter of milk.

@allknowing No i haven't misunderstood. I understood perfectly. That's why I said for a dollar we can buy one loaf of bread not two. And for a dollar we couldn't buy a kilo of banana. It was you who misunderstood me. Even with just a dollar we couldn't buy a liter of milk. A liter of milk costs more than a dollar. A kilo of banana costs more than a dollar. One loaf of small bread costs less than a dollar.

This is a small amount in countries such as Britain or the USA. Here I would need 5 dollars to buy a coffee or a loaf of bread. A 500 ml carton of milk would cost about $2. This is why most UK and USA members consider the interaction more worthwhile than the earnings.

With one dollar I can buy one egg, a kilo of sugar, 1 liter of milk, 1 kilo of flour, not one coffee at a bar because it costs the double.

@LadyDuck It was at a time when I had no experience going to 5 star restaurants. I wanted my husband to take me atleast once and when we ordered for tea and saw how expensive it was I realised for individuals it was not a place to go to unless we joined package holidays.

I see that @Fleura has given you the details of what it could buy in England. However 5km ride in a taxi would set you back about the equivalent of 7 or 8 dollars. (I've been away all week with no internet, so I haven't intentionally been ignoring you. Trying to catch up now.)

I was concerned and almost sent you a message. Hoped that all was well with you. Happy to see you here. Travel here has become expensive and that 5 km ride I am talking about is by an autorickshaw. A taxi costs more.

If we shop the clearance items in the grocery, or sometimes even in clothes at Wal Mart we might find something good for a dollar or less. An avocado is often 98 cents. People in other countries can often buy more with our US dollars than we can.

Here in Dallas a dollar can pay for about an hour of parking at a meter so for that reason a dollar is a lot. Between having coins to park and not. The consequences of parking without paying the meter can be very steep.
