London has elected a Muslim mayor - can you imagine an American city doing the same?

Sadiq Khan has been elected as Mayor of London, in succession to Boris Johnson. As well as being a Labour politician (he is currently also a Member of Parliament for a London constituency) he is also a practising Muslim. Could you see an American city doing the same? And what would be the reaction of Donald Trump and others were such a thing to happen?

And as the media keep reminding us, he's the son of a bus driver. Well done Sadiq. (Though I'm still waiting for him to utter the words "Mr Khan, community leader".

Good to see you here! As long as the person is there on merit it reflects well on the people. The issue is religion should be a private matter but it sometimes is like a can of worms with my god, your god etc - siva

I don't need to imagine it happening in an American city. As the American President Obama is Muslim. I think that beats any spot of Mayor.

One thing you can be absolutely certain of is that Barack Obama is NOT a Muslim and never was! I am amazed that that old lie is still doing the rounds!
