What Is That Photo?

I think that photos on a post are a real enhancement, but I can't count the times I've congratulated someone on a beautiful picture, only to find out that it wasn't their own. Surely it's not hard to just state that it's from Pixabay, or wherever? And why put up an obviously personal photo and not tell us who is in it? I don't like having to ask "Is that you (or whoever) in the photo?". I'd be so pleased it if everyone would credit or explain their photos, it would save any confusion. Gus Kilthau (@ceerios) made the graphic on this post from one of my garden pictures.

i believe that all'f 'em i've used here'r my own photos 'n i dribble such'n the caption part. most always've my watermark thingy'n 'em's well. that mr. gus, aka @cerrios , 'tis quite the whiz, eh? i fear i'm too lazy to tinker with pic's myself. the son's takin' some'n removed power lines 'n such fer other projects i've done. those unavoidable thingies that screw'p an otherwise lovely sunset photo :) i dunno why folks don't credit their pics, but've run 'cross many who don't. 're ya sayin' i ought to be puttin' such info't the end'f my discussions's well? to stave off any confusion? ya know how pitiful my memory's these days, lol. big hugs 'n love!

@crazyhorseladycx No, I'm not saying you should put it on the end of your posts as well (though I do), as your's are all signed anyway. If there is no indication on a post I always blow up the photo to see if it's captioned there anyway. Yes Gus is pretty clever, isn't he? He tried to teach me how to do it, but I'm either too thick or too lazy. It was easier just to send him some of my photos and let him do what he wanted with them.

@jaboUK phew, coz ya know i'd jest ferget to do so :) i blow'em'p's well, but that aint always'n indication neither sadly. yepperz, he's purty spiffy with the "tricks'f the trade". the eldest son's a whiz's well. like yerself, i tend to hand'em o'er to his most capable hands, lol.

If you already say that the picture is your own on the line that pops up once you upload an image that should be fine, Lady. You wouldn't need to explain further in the post. But if folks don't use that area then they surely should mention it in the post instead.

Great idea. I'd like to see this too. I think in my posts I mostly mention that the photo is either Vince's or mine but I'll take more care in future to ensure I credit it properly. I always say if I've used a photo from Wikimedia which is where I mostly go if I don't have a personal suitable one.

I also see a lot of posts like that. Sometimes it is clear that the picture is not theirs. I do believethat there is an option to add a CAPTION to your photo, although I am not sure why more people don't.....Nice photo by the way, is it yours? (Lol - just kidding!)

@maezee Lol - your kidding is taken in the spirit in which it was meant. Yes, the option is there to caption a photo and I always use it. I usually credit it at the bottom of my posts as well.

@jstory07 Yes, you only need to say 'my photo'. It doesn't have to be on the post itself - you get the option to caption the actual photo. Sometimes it helps to say what the photo is of, but that's up to you.

@jstory07 I've got used to your photos, and realise that you took them yourself. However someone coming to your posts for the first time may not know that.

I always put an image credit in the caption if the photo is not mine. Some photos that are legal to reused require a credit. If it is public domain (no credit required) I state that. If it is mine, I may not say so. Hey, that could be the basis for a discussion.

@jatoUK - Ms Janet - Astonishment to be in an admonshment. A person never knows what they will encounter within an @jatoUK post on MyLot. I actually got onto this page on MyLot because I was testing an "ISO CD" (boot-up CD) that I just finished making for one of my buddies. Wanted to see if the CD actually worked. It did. The way MyLot works on my setup here is that the "hottest" new posts show up on the page before anything else. There was that picture of your "crazy daisies" plus your well-received post about properly captioning the images we all use with our postings. Although I do appreciate your mentioning that I "made" that image for you, the real facts are that it was you, Ms Janet, who photographed the flowers in your garden and that all I did was to stick your photo into the computer program here and send you the image that the program made for us to enjoy. My only skill is that of being frisky on the keyboard enough to save the resulting image on the disk drive. I would do the same thing for the Pope in Rome, the governor of Alaska, or you (again) should you want another strange photo image of otherwise pretty flowers. Enjoy your day, Good Friend(s), Gus Kilthau p.s. The image I placed here right now was made from a Pixabay image of a brass hardware bolt - also run through my old computer. (See - I read your post...)

@Ceerios I think you are too modest Gus, it looks pretty clever to me. @rebelann wanted to know how you did it - would you be able to explain it to her? Where's the extra image? Aha - it's there now - very impressive.

@jaboUK - Ms Janet - My excuse for being too modest is that I have a whole lot about which to BE modest. As to @rebelann, I will tell her what can be done to make oddball images. Basically the same stuff I mentioned to you some time back. By the way... It was fun seeing my name being offered up via your nice post. I studied it really strongly - and I believe I actually learned how to spell my name. Regards, Gus Kilthau

Even before reading your post here, once I opened it up I knew exactly who it was did the image for you as I've seen his work. He even shared somewhere the site he uses to get that effect and I did at least one of them myself. I agree with you, though, that it would be much easier to put the credit for the photo where it allows after uploading the image here. Then when mousing over the image it would clue us in before we read the post.

@MarshaMusselman If they've forgotten, they can just say where it's from at the bottom of the post without having to bother with deleting the photo. But it doesn't seem to be mandatory here, as it was in Bubblews.

@jaboUK Sometimes I've forgotten at the time, but it's just as easy to delete that photo and reupload it with the caption showing right on the photo. Maybe some here don't understand that's where those words would go. Or, if they realized they forgot to put it, they can't add it in the edit mode without first deleting the photo, and maybe they don't bother. My guess, though, is that many don't bother trying. Those coming from bubblews or other writing sites were it's expected know how to do it. Others might see some of us getting pixabay photos, because we mention it, but don't realize if they do the same they need to say where they're getting it from. Since you have so many that read your posts, hopefully this post will help get the word out or give them something to think about.

@jaboUK but i am still wondering why an Indian copy-pasted my photo of the bleeding heart white flower in his posts in bubblews, and my name was even in that picture. i had to comment and report the matter to the staff, and in a few hours, his account was deleted. plagiarism was so rampant in that site
