~Crazy Start To The Day~

Jules with my daughter

I woke up and did the dishes, everything was fine. I was feeding the baby after the dishes and everything changed! The 2 dogs I have were getting along for the last week. We thought we would be able to keep Jules after all because they were doing well together. Then...out of nowhere they got into a fight! I had to grab one of their collars and pull them off each other. One is limping and the other has a couple cuts on her face...We will probably have to make a vet visit now. =( I don't know what to do, I guess Jules will have to be re-homed after all because if the kids were close to them they would have gotten bit...I am so heart broken. I wanted to keep Jules, I love her. I love both of them so much. But we can't keep going through this, it's not safe for them or us. For now they are being kept separate...after the doctor for my son we will take Jules to the vet. Then depending on what's said we will be finding her a home asap...

Right--especially with kids around. I wonder what caused it.

@TheHorse Yeah, I don't want them getting bit if they are close enough when it happens. I can't always be in fear of that happening.

Sometimes dogs get into fights because of a reason. They also develop feelings of jealousy, madness, anger and others... I had more than five dogs at time. All the time I had to watch them because the stronger one was pulling others form the tail. The dog in the photo looks like one I had; It was a labrador, they´re very noble dogs. I hope you can keep your dogs.

@LovingMyBabies It's you decision. I like dogs because I understand them. I lived with my dogs for three years and I knew how to deal with them. They usually behave well. Only get disappointed when they feel they're not being treated right. It's like, they're very sensitive. Some dogs are more sensitive than others. Labradors are very sensitive and noble. They have learned this from humans since they have been among humans since prehistoric times.

@quantum2020 Yeah, my one dog has been in our family for 7 years. I think she has a problem with other females, dominance issue and a jealousy thing going on between the both of them. I am not a trainer and have no skills in that area either. Unfortunately I cannot afford to hire one-wish I could.

@quantum2020 Yeah, the one in the picture is a Lab and she is a very jealous dog. We noticed that right away but we thought they would be fine again since it had been so long since they got into a fight. But my children come first and since it's happening again I can't take the risk of them getting bit.

They were so patient! Put up with each other until they just couldn't any longer.

I agree with JJ.They are like children. One moment they will be playing happily. The next moment we will have a fight on our hands. It seems you will have to find a home for Jules.

@silvermist Yeah they have done it before but then they got better so I thought everything was okay. But clearly I was wrong. =(

@LovingMyBabies Through you may be sad you have to be practical.

It sounds like Jules is the dominant dog. If you keep him, he would have to be given preferential treatment over your other dog. He would need to be fed first, walked first, etc. to keep the peace. Since you have small children, it might not be worth the risk.

@akalinus They are both females. Jules we got just a few months ago but Girl has been in our family for 7 years, she's my baby. I don't think it is worth the risk, I just can't afford for my kids to get bit.

@LovingMyBabies I read a book written by a veterinarian. He described a case of a dominant dog needing preferential treatment. The lady thought it was crazy and gave her first pet the best. The other dog ended up killing her old time pet. Don't take chances when you have kids.

@LovingMyBabies Jules would probably do well in a home where she is the only dog.

Several things could be the reason @LovingMyBabies . Are they both male or both female? Are they both spayed and or neutered? How long has the newer dog been present? Could you tell whether the fight was over food or a toy? Sometimes the same gender will not get along as their is a dominance issue. If one or the other is not spayed or neutered, a hormonal issue is present. A newer dog can make the other one feel like they are being replaced. If it was food or a toy, the food bowls can be placed farther apart and the toy needs the scent of both dogs on it.

@nanette64 They are both female-which I think is part of the problem. One is spayed, the other one is not. I do think it's a dominance and jealousy issue. They didn't have food or a toy present.

That is to bad that the dogs are now fighting. You do have to be careful with the children around the dogs as one of the kids could get hurt. Maybe your vet can find a home for Jules.

@dodo19 Thanks. We can't keep them both because this isn't the first time this has happened. They were getting along for a week so I thought they got over their issues...apparently not. =(

It's probably best to find a new home for Jules before either the kids or the dog gets seriously hurt. It's a shame that both dogs aren't friendly

@Marilynda1225 Yeah I know. I have to think about the safety of my children. They are really friendly with my kids and other dogs-just not each other for some reason.
