Lunch with Mom and My Granddaughter

United States
May 27, 2016 6:47pm CST
Went to visit my Mom today and brought my 13 month old granddaughter with me. I stopped at McDonald's and picked up 2 iced coffees and a small fry. Then drove up the street to KFC thinking I would by chicken for lunch. When I looked at the cost of an 8 piece bucket my eyes almost bled. So we went to Burger King and picked up chicken sandwiches and a 10 pc chicken nugget. Mom was in a good mood. She was quite talkative and tried her hardest to get my little princess to sit on her lap. Well my granddaughter clung to me like a vine. Mom kept asking what my granddaughter's name was and who her parents were. She kept saying "this really made my day!" It was clear that she enjoyed lunch and our time together. A few of the residents came out to the deck about a half hour later. My granddaughter buried her head in my shoulder. She didn't like to be around all of those strangers who were ooohing and awwwing over her. Mom announced proudly that she was her great-granddaughter. We stayed for another half hour and it was clear that both my Mom and my granddaughter were getting tired. So I gathered up our stuff, blew a kiss to my Mom (couldn't get close to her with all the ladies sitting close to her) and told her we would do it again soon. It was a nice visit with Mom. Always great to see her smile. She told my brother of our visit and said she had a great time. That made my day.

It was indeed lovely. I have waited for the weather to change so we could enjoy lunch on the deck again. My friend also lived in the same home and I would bring lunch for the 3 of us. She passed away earlier this month.

@Jessicalynnt her health was failing fast. I knew she wouldn't be with us for much longer. Even so, there is an empty space.

Old folk mostly love to see a little child. They don't often get the chance if they are in a home of some sort.

One lady who was a former client, kept commenting on her dimpled hands. She allowed this woman (who is now 101) to touch her hand. She even wrapped her fingers around one of hers. It was so sweet.

@JudyEv my granddaughter took more to the lady in the wheelchair than to my mother. I know that made Mom a little upset. But, Mom kept talking to her and she would wave at my Mom. That made her smile.

@ElusiveButterfly My Mum mostly was able to get around children. She herself said it was because she had a kind face - like a cow. I have not idea where that came from but that's what she said.

Sounds like a lovely visit to your mom with your grand daughter. Kfc food does cost a leg and arm. I normally buy when I have coupons from them, price is more reasonable. Have a lovely weekend!

Our local KFC only offers coupons once in a blue moon. I hope you have a great weekend too!

@ElusiveButterfly Here it's like bi-weekly. Generous price like $10 for a dozen along with 2 sides and a biscuit.

I am so glad you had a good day with your mother, I used to bring my grandson Jack to the home where my mother lives and the old ladies all loved him.

I know that once my granddaughter adjusts to all of the attention they give her she will be okay. She doesn't get out from under her mother's wing too often.

@BelleStarr She has been shy with my husband too. If we had the chance to take her more often she would get to know him more.

My mother was delighted to see us when we arrived. She lept out of bed and got her shoes on right away. I like to see her have such a spark.
