Doe, a deer, a female deer

The empty field

We have anticipated that the large vacant field across from us would host wildlife.(see the picture) Sure, we have seen squirrels, rabbits, doves, and sparrows. We hear robins, blue jays and cardinals. The Mississippi kites and various hawks float on updrafts and spread their wings. Hubby was greeted by a coyote at seven in the morning last week. We stopped the other day to let a bull snake cross the road. There is quite likely a multitude of small hidden creatures, like voles and moles that we do not see. This morning it was a deer, a female deer or doe that was crossing the road. I hope that she went across safely to the heavily wooded lot to the south west. It was broad daylight, ten in the morning. You never know what you will see.

That's neat. didn't you say youn bought a smartphone? If so, try the zoom in onthe camera (swipe your fingers open across the screen to zoom in. I love how my phone takes pics....even though I couldn't capture the squirrel on top of mom's roof the other day.

Nope, no smartphone. I will have to concentrate on having a camera handy more often.

@GardenGerty Smartphones are expensive cameras. I've had so many comments on my trip pictures on how good they are and people are surprised to find out that I took all of them with my phone.

I saw a turtle crossing the road, but couldnt stop, a few minutes later on my way back the other way I watched, was going to move it on across the road, but he either sped up, or someone already helped him along

Sounds pretty wonderful! So glad that coyote didn't want a closer look at your husband!

Husband believes he can pet anything, although he was stalked once in a wheat field by a cougar. Oh, and vultures tend to find him.

@GardenGerty While I would hate to get anywhere near a vulture, petting a cougar would be right up my alley...here kitty kitty kitty! Not sure that would work, however. What did that husband of yours do?

How nice to have all that wildlife right across the road from your house. As long as the deer don't eat your flowers and such.

I think there are plenty of other things to eat, although something, probabaly a bird or rabbit has been at my tomatoes.

I love encountering wildlife. You would think that with as many deer I have seen in my lifetime that I wouldn't react as if I have never seen one. They are lovely creatures.

If you do not pay attention, you can believe yourself to be alone. It is not true.

Some days we walk through the bush and think there is nothing there then suddenly a whole area will seem to come alive and the roos take off. They camouflage so well sometimes.

That would be startling, just like a flock of birds rising up out of the grass.
