she arrived with a whimper

June is here. She's popped over to visit, for about a month. In past years her visits have brought with them much laughter and sunshine. We've enjoyed each others company with cocktails and barbecues in the garden. We've wandered through town, our sunglasses perched on the end of our noses. We've spent time counting down the days until I finish work for seven weeks of holiday.
She usually arrives with a bang. Here I am! she screams, a large straw hat on her head and a brightly-coloured flowery dress hiding her voluminous body. We dance around, giddy with excitement. Who can fail to be happy when in the presence of beautiful June?
Yet this year June does not seem her usual self. Her straw hat is soggy. Her pretty dress is hidden beneath an old, worn, scratchy jumper. She seems miserable and full of pity. She tries to appear bright and cheerful, but it's just an act; rainclouds linger over her head, following her around, scolding the sun for trying to peek through.
Oh, June. Please find your brightness. Maybe it's hidden at the bottom of your suitcase? I don't think I can bear to spend an entire month in the company of such misery.
She arrived with a whimper.

@poppylicious Why you need my dear is to move to Ireland. This June morning is fabulously turned out, bedecked with warm sunshine and flowers and I'm off now to sit on the terrace of a café to eat a late breakfast with a colleague and at lunch I'll take a long walk in the forest with my wife.

Europe should be sweltering in heat, not drowning in pity.

Oh, I would rather have dullness and torrential rain than hot and humid. Well, I'd rather have something in between, but ...

I considered it, but we currently lack loft insulation so we would have just been heating the sky. :)

@Poppylicious It was more of a statement on my lack of descriptive capabilities.

@WorDazza I have often found myself frustrated with your complete ineptitude when it comes to descriptive writing ...

Are you suggesting I'm too flowery and hyperbolic with my wordage? Hmmm? *grin* Today seems a tad brighter ... hopefully it is on your side of the country too. :)

Gloomy Juney. She's not a morning person then?! She sounds like me, taking time to wake up. *smile*

a delightful read, hon. june came'n here with a snorkel, hip waders 'n a boat! thankfully such 'twas short-lived, though there's darkened clouds 'round. i hope that sunshine soon blesses ya, that opportunity to feel its warmth 'cross yer skin. somethin' to warm the soul.

I hope it's not really as miserable as you describe the month of June. On the brighter side, June is a good month of me because it's my birthday and it's the graduation of my eldest daughter. So despite of the natural calamities might come this month, I still have to be happy for the good things that come my way.

It was even more miserable than I described. It was more like a November day than a June one. Silly weather, getting muddled up!

It's the end of the world I tell you! I'm just waiting for some snow to start falling ...
