Oh, Pickle!!

I like dill pickles and other salty pickles a lot. I save the juice/brine off my pickles and boil it and pour it over assorted vegetables, including cucumber slices. We have been thinning the onions at the garden. I had a bunch of small ones and put them in a container. I just poured hot pickle juice over them, and I will keep them in the refrigerator. I guess you could say it is another frugal thing to do.

Yes, it is. My gram used to make relish with onions. So good. Had cloves and stuff in it. Yum!

I read this tip in a magazine years ago, but never did try it. Maybe I should. Does it tastes like the "real thing"?

They do not taste like the store processed pickles but they do taste fresh and are very good as a cold side relish.

There's a place in Istanbul where you buy fresh caught fish in bread and the traditional accompaniment is a glass of pickle juice. Nasty stuff.

I can think of a time or two when I craved it. . . I had gotten sick from being around some bug spray. I think it made my gut feel better providing minerals and probiotics. Normally I would not drink it straight.

I like pickle juice when I make potato salad as it gives it a little something extra. Never tried it on vegetables.

I've used it cold to put in eggs, veggies, potato salad, deviled eggs, etc but never tried it hot. Does it penetrate better?
