Today I got broadband connection at my office. My query is that whether net consumption would be there when computer is switched off or at time I am not using the internet. However, net is on . The technical person told that net conumpton will be there only we use and not when we do not. My friend told that net consumption would be there even we do not use and connected,. Which is true?

In the first place, if it is a landline or cable connection, there should be no charge 'per GB' for data. Such connections are usually unlimited (within reasonable limits). You are paying a monthly charge for the connection regardless of how little or how much data you use. Secondly, if your computer is switched off, then it cannot download or upload anything from or to the Internet, so you would be using no data. If you have a wireless modem ('Wi-Fi'), then you should switch that off, too, when you are not using it. Not only will this save on electricity bills but it will also prevent anyone else from using your connection.

My plan is 999 + serv.tax with 10GB MAX SPEED AND low speed after . Speed will get reduced after 10GB consumption and hence I am worried on computer on and off status. The more I consume faster will be the speed restriction that is upto 10GB maximum speed. Not mind about the money since it is the unlimited plan.

@Manasha I see your point. There are many data meters you can install which will monitor and record your usage and warn you when you are getting close to the 10GB cut off point. I don't know any specific one to recommend It's possible that your Internet provider has one or you could try searching for "Internet monitor" or "Data monitor" or something similar. Anyway, I can assure you that, if your PC is turned off, it cannot access the Internet and therefore cannot use any data. It would be wise, too, to change the settings so that it cannot automatically download Windows and other updates without your specific permission.

@owlwings So, you mean I should turn off the system compulsorily to avoid the consumption instead of turning on even if I do not have any work.

If you don't use the internet there will be no data consumption irrespective of the fact your device is on or off.
