Catcalling, Compliment or sexual harassment?

This is an old news from my country but I was able to make a discussion about it way too late because I have no internet connection for weeks thanks to the incompetence of my service provider. My country's incoming President have a controversy weeks ago because he offended a female reporter during a press conference. The female reporter is attractive so he decided to whistle because he thinks she is hot. She go offended about it and she got support from the feminists groups because of it. I wanted to ask the opinion of the ladies here. Would you will flattered when a random stranger cat called you? Or would you feel violated if a man whistled on you because he thinks you are hot?

Usually drunk bums on the streets do this. I can understand why most women hated this attention.

I don't like it. In Denmark it is not very common, and I have only experienced it a few times. When I was living in Italy it happened a lot, and it made me uncomfortable.

@CaptAlbertWhisker I couldn't image the Danish prime minister doing the same thing. He seems like a serious person and definitely not very flirty

@CaptAlbertWhisker I know and this also happens when you work in an office and the boss thinks he can do this because he is in power. It's very annoying.

If my friends and relatives do it to me I am fine because I know they just enjoy teasing me (they must not do it in public or else) but I hate it when other people do it to me.

So if it's someone you know it is okay but it would be creepy with a stranger.

@CaptAlbertWhisker if someone I know do it in public it's not ok for me too. It's ok if only in our circle.

This is one reason why women are nasty to men. Women feel objectified by men when they receive any kind of attention. Not all guys treat women this way. But, when some do, they feel turned off by any compliment they receive. I don't mind if someone says I'm pretty, gorgeous, cute, or beautiful. But, if you 'compliment' me in an objectifying manner, I will feel pissed off and very uncomfortable. I know that some men grow up learning that. It's very common for Hispanic men to whistle at women they find attractive. That doesn't mean that it's okay for some women. It's either a cultural thing or a form of harassment. I will say this: For that President to treat that woman that way was very unacceptable. It was also very unprofessional. If I was that woman, I would've flipped out, too.

I only compliment women I know because I know they are conformable with me. Yeah some women wanted attention while some wanted to be left alone and mind their business. I dont catcall though because I know that it is disrespectful.

I am not comfortable when a man whistled at me. I know only ill-mannered canto boys do that and so sorry that a President would misbehave that way.

That is conduct unbecoming of a President. I think the reporter will not mind so much if she is in a beach wearing bikini, but not when she is in her professional role. I think this kind of President spells trouble for your country. If he does that to a first lady in other country, that will cause a lot of problem.

He has always been flirty, even during the presidential debates, he was flirting with the female presidential candidate he is competing against. He have a good campaign team that is why he won.

@CaptAlbertWhisker If he does not behave, then he will cause a lot of embarrassment internationally. If he dares to do that to the first lady of China, China will cut all ties!

Well, in the case of an incoming President whistling during a press conference, that's just inappropriate period. As far as that happening to me personally, I guess I feel flattered more than offended. I don't mind a whistle, but I do hate googly eye comments from men who literally drool and have their tongues hanging out - that disgusts me.

@CaptAlbertWhisker Eek - well if he's married with a mistress, then right there I would have a low opinion of him - not only for whistling at another female. This guy is not the ideal role model, that's for sure.

@much2say I really dont know why people voted for him. Some people are fascinated how he lowered the crime rate of his city by vigilante justice.

I wont be shocked if the incoming President will do that one of these days. He is still married with his wife but they were separated because he lives with his mistress. So I have no idea who will be the first lady. He is openly lewd.

It has been a notion in the old days and i think until today , that to whistle to a girl passing by is offensive and only done by those who are always in the streets doing nothing but watch people go by . I would feel offended too because you can just very well tell me "You are a sexy woman " . It would be flattering if they do that instead .

I notice that usually cat callers are unemployed drunkard bums on the streets. A decent man for sure wont be howling on a woman in public like a wolf seeing a baby deer.

This is a president with no decency. Wolf whistle is not good for a man to do it. This is really a bad behavior.
