Full Panic

Canada

This is a follow up to yesterday's renovation post. Management made us believe this was going to be a smooth transition. When I picked up Andrew after his shift last evening, I should have read the unspoken signs. He finished at the time they were closing for renovations. The person they sent to keep new customer's from coming in and letting everyone else out was Vanessa. That's either a stroke of genius or more likely a sign that the script if there ever was one is lost. Vanessa is not cut out to guard a door. She claims to be 4'11" but I think she says that because she just wants us to believe she's close to five feet tall. She is the quietest, sweetest little lady I've ever worked with. Next to my own kids she's easily my favourite co-worker. She just has some limitations and telling people something they don't want to hear is one of them. Fast forward to 6:30 this morning, thirty minutes before our planned reopening. The regular maintenance guy just called in sick and all the other alternates are already in doing other things to try and get the restaurant ready. Management was in full panic mode. It was stressful and initially it bothered me but as the day progressed I found it more amusing than anything else. We managed to open just before 9:00 am. Only two hours late. Apparently that was thirty minutes faster than our sister store managed. I don't know why no one saw this coming. Anyone else had a stressful day today?

I wish I could relieve the stress that way. If I quit though there would be a new financial stress and I think that would be harder to deal with. I should be good though. Today I get to work with the new equipment. It's only a little different than what I've been used to.

It sounds like it is a big restaurant. How many does it cater for normally?

We vary all over the place. We're situated just off the Trans-Canada Highway. We have a lot of regular customers but that road is the biggest factor in our sales volume.

I read so many people here on myLot having renovations or moving out, I guess it is because of the season? It is school vacation and summer in your place?

It's exam week for the highschool down the road. Kids come in at weird times as a result. Winter prevents us from doing a lot of building or renovating here but now that isn't an issue.

It started with my mom & brother asking me to do some online errands. It should have been the task of my brother but since he's lazy, I was asked to do it. I did the online errands while working. What a morning. I'm done with the errand and will just work for the rest of the day.

At least you got it out of the way and just have work now. Enjoy the rest of your day.
