A long time ago, back in the early days of the internet, I would send out an email almost every day that had my favourite quote for the day. I must say that it stirred up some lively conversations in their wake. "Books are television for smart people." -- Bill Bryson, A Walk in the Woods Where do you come in on the side of books vs. television?

I vote for books, also. I like classic literature such as Jane Austen and the Brönte sisters. I'm trying to explore new authors now.

If you like historical novels, I would suggest Sharon Kay Penman and Elizabeth Chadwick. Their writing style and research are superb.

@Telynor I will look into those. Thanks! I do enjoy historical fiction. He wrote quite awhile ago, but I really like Rafael Sabatini's historical fiction. With works like Captain Blood and Scaramouche, his real talent was giving depth to legend and turbulent historical moments with vivid, sympathetic fictional characters.

I watch a few shows on TV, but I mostly just watch sports. Of course, right now I'm not reading as much as I should.

About the only sport I actively watch is Rugby, especially if the All-Blacks are playing. And the fencing on the Olympics. But that's about it.

I would say books. Except a few tv series, television is mostly full of crap these days.
