Washi Tape - what do I know?

Washi Tape

Well . . . one is never too old to learn. When I was writing a postcard for one of the new postcrossing recipiants - she mentioned in her profile that she is a Washi Tape Collector! Well what do i know? First of all what is Washi tape? I eventually googled it - because after sliced bread GOOGLE is the best thing on earth! I was educated in the facts that Washi tape is a printed Japanese paper tape that is self-adhesive and comes in rolls like regular sticky tape. I dashed on out to get me some rolls because I could never let a new postcrossing friend down by not supplying her with a strip for her collection. Being a collector of all sorts myself, I know what its like to be supported! They were not precisely what I was looking for, but as soon as I get onto a good delivery website, I shall get the ones i want - AFRICAN print and designs - and send her another washi taped postcard! Whats your take on the tape?

I like washi tape myself. I have made a couple of birthday cards years ago for my friends with some tape and photos.

I first heard about this from another Mylotter, Jean Marie Barney. She was discussing pocket letters and mentioned this, so I had to look it up as well. Apparently it is originally intended as a decorative accessory, but due to it's easy transportation ha become quite a popular iten for collectors.

Well I am very excited to get acquainted with this new item that i can send to people. Quite fascinating. I shall decorate my postcards at the bottom with strips of Washi tape.

@Inlemay I had not realised that it was adhesive and assumed it was just ribbons.

It's not something I would use myself, but it's nice of you to hunt some down for your friend.

Hunt being the operative word - I had to go to three stores that do the 'scrap-booking' thing to find one that sold it. So I bought a few rolls - just in case I want to use it somewhere else again

I've never heard of this name although I've seen a few examples of this sort of tape, mostly with Christmas designs I think.

then I dont feel that silly - I would never have know what Washi tape was until I got this new postcrossing connection - quite amazing how we learn little things every day without looking for a further education - he he

@Inlemay I guess it is sort of 'enforced' learning, isn't it? :)

I've recently taken interest in junk journal and i badly need those. Ive seen those in some bookstores before but i chose to buy the plastic ones with similar designs. If its cheaper for me to order online, i'll do the same.

I did see a few plastic designs at the store, but I wasnt sure how they would travel attached to the postcard. Very interesting concept. Totally new for me. I am going to order a whole stash on-line for sure

This is the first I've ever heard of Washi tape. It sounds like a cool way to decorate both postcards and letters.

it seems that way - I would have loved them when I was a young girl - I loved all decorative things, like feathers, beads, tapes, ribbons
