Good for Nothing

My photo of a very handsome kitty

My husband thinks I look like a lion tamer when I wear my Hunter boots (Wellies) and carry my big stick when I take Doodles, the cat, for his walks around my yard. The stick is to gently guide him from entering the woods or to threaten any wild animals that may try to attack. The boots are to protect my feet from morning dew or snakes and spiders. Little did I know when I opened the door for our first walk of the day that a robin would fly from a tree straight at me to within 3 feet. I screamed. That's all I could do. Little did I know that shortly afterwards, Doodles would fling a mouse out of a wood chip area right at my feet. I screamed. That's all I could do. I guess I'm good for nothing if worse ever happens.

Screaming is probably a decent deterrent for most things - maybe not snakes though. :)

That is correct Judy, snakes cannot hear - ever noticed they have no ears? They feel vibrations.

Lol! Yes! I don't mind looking at mice when he plays with them, but he surprised the heck out of me when he whipped it out and flung it, unintentionally, at me. Holy moly! It could have been worse.

@Marcyaz We also have field mice. However, this one was charcoal gray instead of light gray. Now I'm wondering if it was a mole.

Sorry to hear she's taking a rest from myLot. It is time consuming, but I wanted to hear about her vacation. Thanks for letting me know. That robin did have babies. They are hatched in the same nest! She was just protecting them. I'm so happy!

You met plenty of wild animals during your morning walk Dianne. The only animals I really fear are snakes, when I see a snake I surely scream.

@DianneN Poor little thing, they are lovely. I mow the lawn every 4 days just to be sure that no snake can hide inside.

@LadyDuck we don't own a lawn mower anymore, and it would be awfully expensive to hire our landscape company more than once a week, but I like your idea.

Snakes and spiders terrify me! I've discovered why the robin flew at me. She was protecting her babies! Yay!

There is nothing worse feeling than wearing flip flops and getting wet grass clippings on ones tootsies. Plus, I feel a bit safer in boots. Be sure to get a strong stick!

I would scream to. My black male cat brought a live mouse into our house and put it down in front of me and I screamed and the mouse ran downstairs and the cat ran the other way to hide.

That's a great picture of Doodles, I love it. Birds can get aggressive at this time of year can't they? A robin has a nest in the hedge quite near my back door, and has dive-bombed me a couple of times, but I didn't actually scream

If we are honest I think we all scream when birds fly towards us and especially if our beloved cats brings us a mouse or two. It's a natural reaction. One day a few years back I stepped out onto the front porch in time to notice a long black snake moving along towards the bushes. I ran out of my sandals and back inside where I yelled at Mike who sat there and laughed at me. I made him go get my sandals. Love the picture of Doodles. Have a blessed day

You are right about the screaming. You are quite believable in running out of your sandals. Lol! I've done my share with meeting snakes, too. They terrify me! Doodles disappeared about 6 weeks ago. When I looked for him in the woods, I stepped on a snake den. They slithered out in all directions. I stopped looking for Doodles after that. Oh, shivers!

@DianneN If I ever stepped on a snake den, I'm pretty sure I would never leave the house unless it was winter. There's no way. Have a blessed day

It's good you wore boots and carry a big stick for protection; and your best protector is your kitty. It can guard you against snakes; but he surprised you with that rat on your feet! He's so funny!
