When our daughter arrived last March for a week vacation , she said she has atopic dermatitis and was even applying the ointment for it . But before the day she went back to Manila , she told us that she discovered that it’s after all , scabies , which she probably have gotten from a public hospital in Metro Manila , where she had one of her internship assignments . She said it’s easy to treat which she did by just buying that lotion also good for killing lice and applied it all over her body after taking a bath that night . In the morning she took a bath . The itching stopped and the scabies was gone after that day . She requested me to have all the beddings she used , soaked in a big pail with boiled water, overnight , which I did . I sprayed the mattress and the pillowcases with disinfectant and had them dried under the sun . Good thing , we didn’t get inflicted with it . Have you been scared of being inflicted with a certain disease ?

i guess it's not really surprising what she can catch since they deal with all kinds of medical conditions, but it's also great that since she's a doctor, she can diagnose and treat herself. even if it's not scabies, i think anytime someone gets sick, changing, laundering, disinfecting bedsheets, pillowcases, blankets, mattresses and general cleaning of the room should be done.

Indeed , it is a good thing now that she can diagnose and treat herself and even us . But you know , i seldom disinfect our mattress and beddings . I would just always have them dried under the sun .

Yes, we were so happy knowing we didn't have it because she said we will get to know if we have it after about how many days . She was worried that we would get it too because she hugged us and sometimes she lies on our bed .

Good her scabies disappeared very soon and you were not inflicted either. I am very careful not to catch or be inflicted with those contagious skin diseases.

Yes, we were amazed that it was just overnight . She just slept with her full body in that lotion , after taking a warm bath and the next day took a bath again . She didn't itch anymore .

Indeed . But she can't do anything because perhaps she got it from sleeping in one of those with no bedsheet matrresses in the hospital when she was one time already very very sleepy from a 12 hour overnight duty , she said .

@SIMPLYD Yup but there are other means as well.. especially when you are examining them and treating them. He just doesn't like dermatology .. he says he starts to itch when he gets to the department itself.

psoriasis, a skin disease, is what my sister thought of having, but it was not. she has lotions and oral medications to stop or control the itchiness she feels in her palms.

There are so many diseases that I am scared of getting from other people or public transports.. I was so paranoid , that my boys didn't get to enjoy playing in the dirt like other kids did so their immune system is weak.. We all have very sensitive skin. I used to scrub my skin too hard to get rid of the germs I imagined were attacking my whole body that I was actually doing a lot of damage without realising .. My doctor told me not to wash too much .. build up my immune system ..let the natural body oil protect the outer layer of the skin ..

Learn to relax my friend . Here , kids leaving in slum areas have a stronger immune system than those rich people who gets sick easily when exposed to dirt .

When I had the animal shelter here at my place, one of the dogs had the Mange, which for humans IS scabies. It took 2 weeks for it to go away @SIMPLYD . I was covered with sores from my scalp to my feet.

@SIMPLYD It was horrible. I had to wear a T-shirt and wrap the rest of my body to keep from clawing at it; especially at night when I slept; although it didn't stop me from clawing at my exposed face.

Working in the field of medicine must be scary to pick up viruses, bacteria, and germs. I'm glad she knew how to treat herself and told you what to do.

When I was at school lots of the kids got scabies which we called 'school sores'. Mostly we would skin our elbows or knees by falling over then the sores would get infected.

Not a disease, per say. But when our friends were going through a bout of lice, I was too paranoid to see them. It was a reoccurring problem for them, so we didn't see each other for mooonths. But I wasn't about to risk our kids catching it. It would have been SUCH a hassle to deal with!

Yes, that one too is a bit scary because it is contagious specially that we don't know if they used our combs . But that one is also easy to deal with the shampoo /lotion intended for that .

@SIMPLYD True. Lice is more of a hassle than a danger. We've managed to evade an incident with lice for, well, ever since we've had kids. So over 11 years. I would hate to purposely expose ourselves to it. *shudder*

Yes, it was fast indeed , just overnight . And to think she first treated it with that ointment which she initially thought it to be atopic dermatitis . But since the itchiness persisted , she decided to research further thus she found out its scabies and treated it accordingly .

I suppose that's the danger of working in the medical profession - you are likely to pick up infectious diseases. I'm glad that your daughter was able to get rid of the scabies, and that you took the necessary precautions so that you didn't get it.

Yes, it comes with the medical profession indeed . However , sometimes like her case sleep is what is foremost in her mind at that time . Thankfully , she finally treated it . We don't like to have it so we really have to take the necessary precautions .

I gues i had mine also in my childhood days . Who wouldn't , when as children we would go to those grasses and just simple lie down there . We really have to take the precaution , because we don't want it .

Why , what's your condition , that you have itchiness ? She got it from that mattress with no bedsheet , wherein a lot of diseased persons have slept there and who knows someone had scabies too .
