My Facebook account was hacked!

When I get emails telling me that someone tried to hack this or that account of mine, I usually dismiss said emails as scams, and forward them to Abuse@Whatever. But this morning, the email that said someone tried to access my Facebook account from China was well-written and seemed legit. I tried to access my Facebook account from a Comment Notification in my email, and by golly, my account was temporarily frozen, or so it said. I went back and read the comment from my friend. Yep, that was her style of writing, and it was about a subject that only she and I (and our real-world friends) would know about. All I had to do was change my password on Facebook, and I was back in. Have you had this happen to you? I wonder what the perp would have done with my account had they gotten in. Flooded my page with ads for Asian Brides? Or something even more nefarious?

It happened to me before. They flooded my page and my friend's pages with messages about how I earned $100 a day. I had to prove I owned the account and change my password. Then I started removing those bogus messages from my page and friend's pages.

Ah, I was wondering what they'd do with it. What if someone got in, changed your password, and made it a pain to contact Facebook staff?

There has been a rash of this recently. Mine was hacked a few days ago. Fortunately I was on at the time and only had to advise them that the login from northern Ontario was not legit and changed my password.

I do not understand why people hacked others a/c for no reason. Besides this there are so many link that you will received in your inbox and if you try to open it get circulated to many of your friends timeline and inbox and group which is really embarrassing therefore we should be very careful

I do always wonder the benefit of stealing a Facebook account bt I guess it links to other things that may have personal information. I get the ones about my Paypal account all the time

Monday a message took over my computer that said it was from Microsoft and said if I didn't call the 800 number that my computer would be frozen. I couldn't get in and do anything. It was a scam @TheHorse . I called my provider and they found 385 viruses in my system. That was a 4-hour clean up by my provider.

Oh how awful! It's never happened to me and I hope it never does. I don't know if they do it for sport or if they come looking for information to steal. Either way, I'm glad you got back into your account!

Oh gosh, that doesn't sound good but good thing you are able to get your Facebook account back. Hackers are crazy and twisted good thing my Facebook was never hacked. Though I had a yahoo messenger that got hacked years ago I never used yahoo messenger since.

I once had to change my password, and I made sure I changed the setting to secure. Haven't had any trouble since.
