We are headed out to see my dad and his wife for the day. One lesson I learned when my mom passed was that you can never visit your elderly family enough. We will not stay overnight, I do not like them to feel they must wait on us, but we will surely have a nice visit, after we stop for breakfast on the road. Have a lovely day, we have thunderstorms and it is all good.

We are having a good time, we will not stay long. It is obvious how they are aging each time we visit.

It would really be hard for me to have a parent far away...or any of my children for that matter. You have that all the way around

Have a very nice visit Heather. You are so right, and that is why I treasure these moments with my Mama too that I have everyday. Yes a rainy day here as well friend but welcome for the coolness.

What you say is very true. We need to make these visits regularly and not put them off thinking that there will always be another day.

We try to visit my husband's elderly aunt as often as possible... that usually means once or twice a year. She's 84 but she's the busiest person I know. He drove up there one day and she was gone camping. We saw her last weekend, she was finally home for once. Visits with her don't last long. She tends to spend a lot of the time running around her house trying to find things to give us. We don't really want any of it but have trouble saying no to her.. so we bring this stuff home and end up donating it.

I hope the storms won't impede your drive. I am sure your father will love to see you and your husband today. You are right, time is so precious.

That's so true about visiting elderly relatives. It's no good wishing you'd done it after they've gone.

At 70, my mother is the reigning matriarch, and I am the next in line. She and I live about 600 miles away from each other, and I can't come to her because I so allergic to palm trees and other things native to Florida that it's just not conducive to my health. But, we talk on the phone and chat online every day, and she comes to see me when she can.
