Building our current abode

Canada

Thought I'd test out my skills in making a slideshow on YouTube of the building of our family home. It starts with us in the bush deciding where we want to build. Then it goes to me starting to clear the site by hand. One of the local farmers came with a tractor and finished clearing and leveling the site for me. From there you'll see various stages of construction until the building is standing as it is today. The biggest difference between the last two photos is that all the deal trees are gone. They went up the chimney. Hope you enjoy the slideshow. Music is canned generic stuff YouTube makes available. I want to make some tracks feature me on my harmonica and or my wife on her flute but that can't happen yet.
I created this video with the YouTube Slideshow Creator (http://www.youtube.com/upload)

Your photo looks like having the dimensions of a sea van which some people also convert into homes.

The building is 24 feet by 16 feet, one and a half stories high. At least that's the way we would describe it. It was supposed to become my wood shop. A house was intended to be built later but we ran into pretty serious financial trouble. This is really small for a family of seven.

@sunrisefan We're not sure which direction we'll go with this. My biggest problem is that this was intended to be the workshop and there is no real room for that inside. That shop was supposed to put bread on the table. It's a long story.

@koopharper But I'm sure you can make do with that and expand or extend it later when finances permit.

It has its flaws but how many people can say that they live in a building that they built. I am proud of it.

@koopharper That is true. My husband bought a small cottage and added on two additions that doubled the size.

Thanks. I was surprised at the quality of the photos because the majority of them were taken with a cellphone.

How interesting, and you are very clever to do all that yourself.

Thank you. Easily the biggest and most complicated project I've undertaken. I've dreamed bigger but the budget keeps me in check. Incidentally the design was my own as well.

@koopharper That makes it absolutely unique. My house is a mirror image of my neighbour's.

I would like to finish the interior. At least make it more functional than it is.

That's neat. We built two homes and it's hard work, but it's a wonderful feeling to get it done.

It is hard work. Sleeping in it for the first time was a very special experience.

Thanks. The first fourteen pictures were already set up as a photo album so it was a pretty straightforward project.

We've never been able to properly finish the interior. It looks terrible and we are so cramped together. Those pictures won't happen until I can finish it.
