Doggone It - All Out of Bananas

What's a person supposed to do when they run out of bananas to cut up and to stick into their morning bowl of Cheerios? Yeah. I know - find a coconut or a watermelon to put into the bowl with the cereal. The no-bananas calamity struck this morning. Hit me right where I live - in the stomach. When I got up this morning there were only two things on my mind. (1) Make that million bucks today and, (2) get that big bowl of Cheerios and bananas on the breakfast table right front and center. No bananas. Still had plenty of Cheerios, a sufficient amount of those to keep from going "bananas" myself. No strawberries, no apples, no peaches, no nothing that I could find to put atop those wonderful Cheerios. Scratch my nose and wiggle my toes - what to do? Finally, the wise words of our family doctor bubbled to the top of the pile of neurons I keep up there within that bony box between my ears, to wit: "You have lost some weight, young man, and I want you to get some of those 'Ensure' kinds of nutritional drinks they push on the old folks these days." Yes. That was it. "Ensure" kinds of stuff. We had some of that goop in the cooler - the chocolate shake kind. So I gave it a try. Success. Doggone good with the Cheerios. Also something to report along to our doc. (And she thinks that she knows everything already...) * * * * * * * * * * Image source: Gus Kilthau * * * * * * * * * *

Well, you gotta be resourceful and do whatcha gotta do . . . and sometimes you find those happy "accidents" that you end up loving. I'm glad that saved you and you were "ensured" of a tasty breakfast afterall .

@much2say - When you can't, it helps to find help in a can (of chocolate shake, that is...)

@Ceerios I must admit when I saw your photo, I was wondering what the world that brown stuff was . So is that something you will always have from now on?

@much2say - That brown stuff tastes mighty good all by itself and it may get dumped into the Cheerios bowl from time to time - but there is no way for the brown stuff to beat out the pure good taste and joy of having sliced bananas in your Cheerios.

We are out of bananas too. I cut one up and an apple and eat them in yoghurt. My healthy snack - at least I think it is healthy!

@JudyEv - Ms Judy - There is no question but that apples, bananas, and yoghurt are "healthy" - as long as they do not catch the influenza, the Zika thing, or be otherwise eaten up by some other critter before you can get your tummy around them.

marcyaz - Oh, Lover of Cheerios and Bananas - Your good taste is equal to my own good taste - Cheerios plus banana slices. One time I got stuck with some really green (unripe) bananas. Cured that in a big hurry. Stuck the slices into the microwave for about 30 seconds (or thereabouts) and that is how long it took for the things to get ripe, Me, on the other side of the microwave door, hungering for Cheerios and RIPE bananas. It worked like a dream.

@Ceerios You can also keep the green bananas in a plastic bag and they will rippen up, I just had some Cheerios.

@Marcyaz - Around our house, bananas do not last that long. We buy 'em, eat 'em, and use those plastic bags to toss the used banana skins. Would it not be a scary thing to be a banana?

I never tried these cereals, but I know that they are sold here by Nestlé. Everything is good with chocolate. If the goal is to gain weight it is certainly the way to follow. You can even add bananas.

@topffer - Friend Topffer - Chocolate may look rather dark and foreboding, but, as you say, it surely does taste good.

To my mind, the Cheerios with sliced banana and plain milk sounds the nicer option. But full marks for lateral thinking with the Ensure! ;)

@pgntwo - Friend PGN - Your choice is indeed the better option, but it was fun to try out the chocolate stuff.
