Surprise, surprise - Boris Johnson appointed Britain's foreign minister

The new British PM Theresa May has just appointed Boris Johnson as the new foreign secretary. At first look it may appeared that Ms May may have made a huge mistake. But then on second thoughts she did it so that he can mop up the mess he helped to create by fighting so hard for Brexit. If he failed in his attempt and Britain's economy goes down the drain then she can put the blame onto him! Do you think my analysis is any good?

Since I read that she said that UK should leave the ECHR, I do not think that Theresa May is very smart ; she is just another populist among others. Boris Johnson was contacted as a second option when Mr Bean declined the nomination. He was also free to refuse. The only analysis that I do about this new UK government, is that we are not far to see the decline of populism in UK, and it is not a bad news.

@topffer I didn't know that Mr. Bean was approached. Anyway, good thing he declined as he probably knew that this job is no laughing matter and that it's going to be tough.

@succeednow Mr Bean has always a solution for everything and would be probably better for diplomacy than Boris Johnson.

Yes, I do. As she also supported the Brexit, they can do the mopping up together.

@MALUSE I guess they'll have to hope that the EU guys won't make it too tough for them.

I've noticed that, since Brexit, all the people who campaigned for it have sort of run away, dropped out of sight, or out of the running for the top job. I get the feeling that was because they didn't want to sort out the mess they'd made (never having expected to have caused it), so that they could blame problems on someone else.

You could be right. And if he really stuffs it up he can be ousted without anyone getting too upset.

@JudyEv Let's just wait and see how he handles his counter part in the other countries. Hope he gets his 'diplomacy' right.

@ModernDayWriter He's the one with the blond and groovy hair cut. No, don't confuse him with Donald Trump.
