Do You Ever Take The Bus?

I live out in the country so the city bus is out of reach. Some people rely on the bus as their main transportation. It's a good thing for the environment, I suppose, and it could potentially relieve traffic congestion if more people got into the habit. I have taken the Greyhound bus for long distance trips. It was pleasant enough. My reading habit helped melt the miles and I noticed that many travelers snoozed the trip away. The best bus experience for me was in London. They have comfortable and very cool buses there - bathrooms in the rear, small tables for your drinks and lamps for ambiance. I don't know if it's still the same but I was certainly impressed. Do you ever take the bus? Hop on the bus, Gus -

I haven't taken the bus in years. Years ago the bus used to come within walking distance from where I live. But when we voted out the high cost of renewing auto licenses (when I bought my pickup in 1989 it cost well over $400 for the licenses) they cut the bus routes. There are some "park and ride" parking lots close by but it's never been convenient for me. I've also rode on Greyhound and Trailways. Have you ever rode the train? I went from Spokane to Seattle to Salem, Oregon once. Hated the ride from Spokane to Seattle because we just chugged over the mountains and even got into Seattle 4 hours late. But I loved the trip from Seattle to Salem.

@RichardMeister - And, despite the chugging, it was probably a great experience too.

I went cross country on Amtrak - from Sacramento to Boston. It was a wonderful experience.

@suziecat7 The reason it took so long going from Spokane to Seattle is because it was early spring and there was still snow in the mountains. When I say the train chugged it's way to Seattle, I mean "chugged." I was about to go as far up front as I could to see if we were being pulled by an old steam engine. But on the trip from Seattle to Salem the train tore up the tracks. The only reason I took the train was there was a lot of talk at the time about passenger trains no longer running and I wanted to ride one before they were no more.

You must have been on a special tourist bus in London - most of them aren't like you describe as far as I know. I haven't been there for ages.

It was a long time ago. I think it was a shuttle of some sort. London is my favorite city - I have no bad memories except the extremely tight security at the airport.

@suziecat7 I think it's the same at any airport nowadays - I get frisked every time I go through because I have a metal hip.

When I travel abroad I sometimes take the bus, but in my own country I prefer to go by car. My husband and I live in a village and the bus connections aren't great.

When I went to College I took the bus downtown so I would not have to pay for parking.

Parking can be a problem. A good reason to take the bus.

Even if I lived in town our bus system is pretty poor. I'd for sure hop on a bus in the winter but we're about 15 miles away from a bus stop.

@suziecat7 I don't like how our bus system is set up. It takes 45 minutes on a bus ride that would take 15 when I drive my car.

@sallypup - My experience as well. They tend to meander rather than take a direct course.

Here the public transportation is very important. Besides the subway, the buses are another main public transportation. You can go anywhere by bus or subway. So actually it is convenient. Of course I will take a bus when it is crowded in subway.

I think in the bigger cities taking a bus is preferable to driving.

I do take the bus quite a bit. It does help the environment and can be relaxing in some regards, but it does have its downsides too.

One of the downsides, I imagine, is relying on the bus schedule. Still it is relaxing.

@suziecat7 yes, it can be frustrating to rely on bus schedules. But it be relaxing. Don't have to worry about driving.

It's sad, but I can't even make heads or tails of the bus schedule online . . . I have never taken the public bus before! I only have the experience of going on the school bus regularly - and that was only for half a year.

@suziecat7 I heard it's kinda bad here too because they don't always follow the schedule, it's plus or minus and it's not like they come often enough - you miss it, you missed it.

Bus is one of the major transportation here in our country. I always ride them when going out of the city than driving my own car because i can sleep, relax and enjoy the surroundings.

We have travelled in buses from time to time and generally find them quite comfortable. I can't read on a bus or I get motion-sickness but usually I enjoy looking at the scenery anyway.

@suziecat7 In England and Ireland I liked being on a bus so it raised you up above the hedges a bit.

I don't want to ride in a bus. Actually, I really avoid riding in a bus. The bus drivers here are so reckless. Many accidents happen here because of them.

No bus out here in the boonies - Knoxville or Chattanooga - but I wouldn't ride one anyway - I did enough of that in my younger years.

Only in foreign countries. I don't take the bus in the US. I drive, like most people who live in suburbs.

I have taken local buses like London and New York and those are quick brief trips. I have taken Greyhound for long trips and they were nightmares.

@suziecat7 I used to take it a lot when I was in high school. There was a high school a few blocks away, but there was an integration law back then where I had to be bussed 5 miles away from my house.
