I am most certainly getting to tour Germany via the myLot as well as postcrossing.
Such a beautiful black and white postcard from a postcrossing member who lives in the Northern area of Germany near Hamburg - kindly she took a train trip of 1 1/2 hours to find her postcards to post to her friends - so its not just me that has to go postcard hunting.
Kiel is the capital and most populous city in the northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein and lies approximately 90 kilometers north of Hamburg. Another interesting fact about the place is that The Olympic sailing competitions of the 1936 and the 1972 Summer Olympics were held in Kiel.
It seems it lies along the Baltic Sea which makes it important for cruise ships that are sailing that area.
The stamp is beautiful and depicts "Sächsische Schweiz" otherwise known as the Saxon Switzerland which is a hilly climbing area and national park around the Elbe valley south-east of Dresden in Saxony, Germany. Together with the Bohemian Switzerland in the Czech Republic it forms the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. Just magnificent.
People are so generous in sending me postcards and I cannot emphasize my appreciation enough.

"It seems it lies along the Baltic Sea...". It doesn't only seem to lie there, it does lie there! :-)
I visited the city during a paddling tour with our canoe club. We started on a small river in Schleswig-Holstein which flows into the Baltic Sea and then paddled along the coast to a small fishing town. Happy memories! I was 16 or 17 years old then, I don't remember exactly.

I am so glad I can get mine at the local walmart, although if I do go on a trip, I plan on snagging some fun ones for later!
