Why does school start back so soon? It has caught us completely by surprise! Last year was my sons first year of school, and he started around August 16th. I just checked the schools website and they start NEXT WEEK on the 3RD!! We are so not ready for this! We've not gotten any supplies, and we don't have any of the paperwork we need (Aside from his last report card from last year). Its insane. I told my husband and he doesn't really seem to care much if at all. He just sat down and started watching something on TV. GRRR. We don't even have him REGISTERED yet! Have you ever had a brand new school year LITERALLY sneak up on you? Were you able to get everything you needed in time?

My children are starting their Home School year at the end of August. I still have to get their supplies and paperwork in as well. It's going to be a tight squeeze! I hope you get everything done in time!

My husband talks about wanting to homeschool, but I don't think we are capable of teaching our son how to read. Maybe once he gets past that important hurdle we'll look at homeschool as an option again.

@nonersays Learning to read isn't something I pushed with my kids. They learned when they were ready and their all perfectly fine. =) As long as it's fun all kids will learn how to read. That's the awesome thing about Home Schooling-there is no "rush" on when they learn new things-it's when the kids are ready.

Our long break is over summer from a week or two before Christmas to the beginning of February.

@nonersays Maybe your husband thinks there is no point in both of you worrying about it - so he'll let you do it!

Schools are starting around the world before fall. So it's common.

I think its too early. Kids get less time to be kids. When I was in school (so very long ago) we used to get 3 whole months off. Now they barely get 2. There's time enough to work until you drop when you're grown up.

I am a retired teacher, so always knew the beginning of the dreaded school year. That seems awfully early. Here, it usually begins the end of August or beginning of September. Sales are starting!!! Good luck!
