I Feel Like A Hamster On A Wheel

United States
July 29, 2016 9:48am CST
As the days as flying by I feel like I'm a hamster running on a wheel....I"m running but getting nowhere fast. My mom has been in the rehabilitation facility now for over 4 weeks and although she's getting excellent care I'm exhausted and I'm finding my concentration is off. My thoughts are scattered and I feel like my mind is a ping pong game with the ball bouncing back and forth between when will she be able to come home and I don't see her coming home any time soon if ever. Even sitting here trying to read my mind wanders and I have to reread everything 2x. I find myself wishing I could take a nice vacation somewhere beach related where I can just sit and relax and not have to worry about a darn thing. But, it's not in the cards so I'll just have to plug along and take each day as it comes. The overnight rain and the showers this morning are giving way to sunshine so when I go out later I don't have to deal with an umbrella. Smiles to everyone here and hope you have something fun planned for the weekend

I know that feeling, sounds like you need a break even if it is just a nice long hot bubble bath

I have some plans for this weekend, involving visiting flea markets where I can find somethings that I might need. I´m going to spend next Sunday doing this. I might eat out of the house too.

Enjoy your swim at the lake. I haven't been swimming in years and it was always something I loved to do during the summer months. Hopefully one day I'll be able to enjoy swimming again

I'm my own worst enemy and always put everyone elses needs ahead of mine until I run myself into the ground. You would have thought by now I'd have learned.

being a caretaker is a hard job, I know I have done it for the last 15 years or more. I am sure I will not do another after Tony, I am worn out too. Once this older man said while helping his older brother "taking care of them old people will kill you!" Just try to get more sleep and eat right, remember she is being taken care of so think of yourself a little more.

I know i have to take better care of myself and you are right that she's in good hands and being well cared for. It's just that I feel guilty when I don't visit every day even though it's probably not logical to think this way. I'm always amazed at how you burn the candle at both ends and do as much as you do!!!

It's hard when so much is on your mind. Maybe it would be good to change things up . . . something out of the norm, something out of the routine . . . to help with focusing on something else? It is a huge relief to know your mom is in excellent care - it's great to know she is in good hands.

there are times we try to do to much.. you need to just slow down and take a little "you time" . relax and do something you enjoy..forget about the world just think of yourself... You deserve a little time alone....

A little alone time is probably what I need even if I can't enjoy a trip to the beach. Your advice is much appreciated

You've been a long time back and forth and back and forth and I can understand feeling like the hamster on the wheel. I hope that something gives soon, and you have a visit yourself from a friend or a family member to get you out of your rut.

I remember Robert Kiyosaki's picture of a rat on a wheel and it was captioned, "The Rat Race". I am sure that you are not the only one who is feeling like a rat running on a wheel. There are millions around the world, who are right now, running - keeping themselves busy with a lot of things but at the end of the month, there are still lots of wheels to run because the result is not enough to get out of the rat race. Praying for good health to you and your mom.
