Why are myLotter Comment-Deleters still at myLot?

August 7, 2016 1:05pm CST
It's a strange way to join a free-discussion community when you delete responses that challenge your way of thinking; that don't agree to ride along with you in your band wagon? At myLot, I've grown thick skin to take in comments from peope that challenge my thoughts as these people present their facts. Perhaps, I can study your premise and let's continue discussing intelligently. And then, happily agree to disagree. No harm done :-) Oh, well. Everyone's free to want to discuss or shut their challengers off. Cheers!

The whole of a post is to try to engage in commenting and responses as that's how we earn here. A provocative post usually is about a hot button topic such as politics and draws response. The freedom to express opposing viewpoints add "fuel" to earnings. A discussion would wither if everyone agreed.

@everwonderwhy Sounds like reasonable questions to pose.

Yeah, I lost a few cents there for asking why they conclude that Trump and his supporters were "racists", and what they can't stand about Trump's boldness "big mouth" in what he says.

The only comments I have deleted have been my own, Sometimes I've thought better of what I've said.

@everwonderwhy Sometimes I re-read a comment I've written and realise it could be taken in a different way from what I had intended, so I will delete it and start again.

I'd probably do that, as well. But usually, I edit and re-structure my words making sure that I'm not commenting in a derogatory manner.

Everyone is entitled to write what they want, however there is always two sides of the story. It doesn't necessarily mean the person you're having a discussion with IS deleting their comments, but the original discussion poster can delete comments as well or even the entire discussion. I have noticed some original discussion posters do not like off topic discussions within their discussion post, or further back/forth communication so they can 'delete'. Not to mention, there could be glitches/bugs here and there on myLot.

@everwonderwhy By deleting comments or responses, you won't lose any of your earnings whatsoever!

@infatuatedbby I think, the owners of the comments will lose the cents.

Good point. But by deleting comments and responses, we also deprive them of their earnings which is rightfully theirs. Esp.comments that people put so much careful thought and research into. If they go off tangent within the thread, we can always direct the conversation back on track. Maybe, if we are the type that censure people's opinion because they disagree with us, we must label our post: IF YOU DON'T AGREE, SAVE YOUR BREATH FROM READING MY POST AND FROM COMNENTING. I maintain my respects to myLotters.

We all want interactions and when we get one we delete it? That's out of my mind. As long as there's respect, all comments should be welcome, in my opinion, but it's okay if someone thinks differently, of course. If a comment is offensive it can be reported, or better, it must be reported. I'm a young girl but also an adult and will behave like one. I didn't know there were people who would delete comments here, I only deleted a few because they were doubles, it may happen on slow connections. I just like when things look neat. Discussions are discussions, not monologues where people can only clap, I agree with you.

@sabtraversa I agree with what you said about respect for one another as intelligent human beings even if we disagree. Great thought!

I like that, discussions are discussions, not monologues.

@paigea These kind of comment-deleters will just hold on to their monologues on their own 'discussion' thread.

I have never deleted a comment. I have felt like it at times but did not. Some people harp on the same thing and I don't even understand what they are talking about. They pick out some little fact or idea and just keep on and on about it. How do you answer that?

@akalinus I guess, from what they are saying, they just reveal something about themselves that are worth pursuing a good discussion about. Sometimes, they're not worth discussing and we leave it at that. Or, they could be very sincere about what they believe in and if we don't understand, it's okay to ask, with sincere interest, and let them clarify so that we can respond appropriately.

@TheHorse It's just a little while ago that that kind of action when my comments magically disappeared. Thankfully, I had screenshot the thread to prove that I had been respectful.

I don't get it either. But everyone is free to enjoy it the way they like. I might delete a comment that was insulting someone else; but my own skin is pretty thick.

@paigea Some safe-place people resort to character-assassinations when their PC mentality is chiseled away and challenged. Besides, isn't myLot supposed to be a fun place for smart people?
