Heavy Metal or Mozart?

Once upon a time many years back I used to be fond of heavy metal. The music matched my dark moods of those days. All it took was to put on an Iron Maiden or a Metallica or Dream Theater and I could instantly shut off the outside world, which was not very pleasant. Until two cats walked into this home and kind of stayed put. Life started revolving around the cats. I started going out to a specific pet shop which was an hours drive away because they showed an affinity for a specific brand of cat food. And John Petrucci was laid to rest. I did try. But whenever I put on a heavy metal or hard rock, they would both retreat to the furthest corner of the house and sit with their backs turned towards me. It was possibly their way of shutting of something which did not suit their tastes. I tried balancing and using headphones. But none of them were as joyful as listening to music along with the cats. With a deep sigh I laid all those albums to rest. I used to balance heavy metal with western classical - Beethoven, Mozart. And I discovered that one of the cats adored Mozart. I just had to put in the Mozart CD and he would come running and sit deathly quiet staring at the music player. Eventually he got named after Mozart. Its been many years now. Once in a while I still feel the yearning for Eddie Vedder. But I make sure that its on headphones and the cats are not disturbed.

Cats don't have wide music tastes, as they don't have wide food tastes, pff. I enjoy the tunes with different musical instruments, that's why I'm keen on Folk Metal, Pagan Metal or Symphonic Black Metal. Would your cat appreciate some Korpiklaani or Dimmu Borgir instead? Maybe they can slowly get used to Heavy Metal if you slowly switch genres, like using Symphonic Metal (Nightwish) in between.

@sabtraversa, Quite interested in exploring Pagan Metal and Symphonic Metal. Might use the headphones. Will check out on these. Thanks for the tip. I asked my cat whether he would like to join and got that i-have-better-things-to-do-i-ignore-you look.

@Hatley, Cats rule. And its not just music. I had to make serious lifestyle changes after these two came on-board. I did read about Mozart and other such classicals creating positive energy vibes. More cheerful and goes with happy cats I guess :-)
