Finally Changing My Name

Well tomorrow we will finally be going to the social security office so that I can change my last name. I am excited, but worried because once I do it there I have so many other places that I need to go and update my name at. I will take care of all of it, but just thinking of them all is very overwhelming. Would you change your name after marriage? Did you change your name after marriage?

yes, I did. You can keep your maiden name if you choose.

I'm not married yet but I would probably change my last name too. It'll be a little hassle because you have to change everything, and all your accounts, credit cards, passports, etc.

Both names fit well with your first! I am not used to my hubby's name next to mine so it sounds weird to me. Ivelisse Hawkins

I have thought about changing my name after I got married, but I haven't. I kind of like my name the way it is, and it can be a lot of work to have to change it. There are so many places I'd have to contact and such. So, I chose to keep my name. I understand why some women do, and I have no issue with that, but I chose to keep it.

I did, and I'll probably be changing it again later this year. I've started using my middle name rather than my first, so I'll just be dropping my first name. Still haven't decided if I'm going to add my maiden name as a middle yet... I've regretted dropping it for the last 10 years, so maybe it's time to fix that too. You'll get used to going by your married name soon enough. It just takes some time to get used to.

I'm single. No, I won't change my name if I get married in the future. As a sign of respect to my parents who raised and supported me till I got my license, I'll retain their names. Also, for uniformity and familiarity purposes, my clients and people in the legal profession know me by my surname. I want to retain the name I built for years.

When I got married I changed my last name but at the same time added on. For example I use my first and last name and then a hyphen then my married name. The name I use here is my first name and married name. You can change it any way you wish. I use my first name and married name all the time now. Congratulations on your marriage, by the way! You are an official Mrs.
