My laptop just gave me a birthday present!! Some of you may remember I said it quit working, right? I did not know if it was from lightening, or an update, due to the fact that it was doing an update, and we had a power interruption of about a half a second. Windows 10 had installed itself a few days earlier. I have B-A-D history with Windows 10 installed on my other computer and I had to have it completely wiped.. It had similar symptoms to my laptop, except it was plugged into the router. The laptop could not find wifi, and was giving me a black screen. Nothing else in my house was damaged. However, my laptop would not come on, and it did not find the wifi in my house either. I did at one point remove the battery and then put it back in. Still did not seem to work. My laptop has been sitting in a corner. Plugged in and ignored. I have been shopping for a Windows 10 laptop since I was sure I would be replacing it. I have been saving money for a new stove, and I was debating if I should buy a new laptop first. Guess I will not be buying a new laptop. I just need to learn how to use Windows 10. So that was a good thing that happened after I took a nap.

Happy birthday from me - i'm glad you won't need to buy a new laptop. I hope you get on ok with Windows 10 - I'm resisting getting it so far.

My experience is that it is not a smooth transition adding ten to an existing operating system. I do not have a smart phone and people say it operates more or less the same as a smart phone.

Glad you can keep saving toward a new stove. I'm constantly having to make similar choices.

I really think the stove is more of a necessity. We bought a used one to move here with and besides being dirty it leaks. I only turn the gas on to it when I am cooking as it burns off whatever is leaking.. I want to get a nice gas stove when we buy new.

@koopharper Definitely. Do not want to be standing over a wash tub , or fall through the floor joists.

@GardenGerty No argument there. We have to replace our washing machine and part of the floor underneath it before winter. Definitely a necessity.

Yes, it is a really good occasion. I think I will permanently keep the Pay Pal and other coupons adding up.

I think there may still be some issues but it is useable. I do not think it works on just battery, or maybe it just dislikes my bedroom. I can use it just fine in front of the television. Maybe it is bored.

Yay, I almost have enough money to buy a new gas stove instead. I like that.

Reminds me of when my iPad got all locked up. I couldn't seem to fix it. I put it in the closet and there it sat for about a year. When I took it out again lo those many months later, it asked me if I wanted to install the new operating system. Of course I said "yes." And it worked fine. But I wondered how many months that message had been there, lol.

Ah yes, you are the one I remembered that had a similar happening. It is hard to understand all of this technology.

Power interruptions don't usually bother laptops because the battery bridges the gap. I'm wondering if your laptop may be warning you that some component is reaching its end of life. I'd be sure to back up all my data just in case.
