What's safe anymore?

Just read a newspaper article recently about some type of kids playmat that was found to contain harmful chemicals. Apparently that type of playmat is quite popular here and I remember seeing lots of stores selling them. It's a bit upsetting, obviously. Average consumers would probably have no idea what's really inside the things they buy. From toothpaste to sunscreen lotion to snacks...now playmats too! It just makes me wonder what's really safe anymore. How well do you do your research before buying things?

Kids are more at risk. Parents need to be more observant.

Yes I think everyone has to be well-informed about the things we purchase nowadays.

@sol_cee True. I usually get to know about these things by keeping up with the latest consumer news.

If it's a need, I'll buy. Otherwise, I won't even do a research.

I think now I'm more particular about the things I buy. I try to find out as much as I can before buying stuff.

I think we all need to be more careful and research what we put into our body as it seems that many products are unsafe.

I agree. Seems like a lot of manufacturers don't really put consumer safety as their priority anymore.

That's dreadful, how can people be so careless and callous that they let that happen? I have to be very careful because I do most of the food shopping and the wife gets dreadful migraines that get set off by additives so I spend a lot of time reading the label.

Unless it is made in the United States the things need to been looked into carefully as a lot of things from china are able to pass regulations that are not safe like high lead levels etc.

Yeah I'm not sure if they're imported or what but I wonder how they could pass regulations that easily if they contain harmful stuff.

It is sad to note that there seems to be nothing safe anymore. How come these greedy businessmen can manufacture and sell unsafe commodities just like that?

Exactly. I believe it's ignorance. They should have done proper research about the ingredients before manufacturing them.

I think greedy manufacturers are to blame for this because they are quick to make simple things chasing after the market at the expense of the safety of their intended market and are not even keen on meeting the set standards.

We never know what a product can hold in it. That's a chance consumers take.

We have to read the contents of anything we buy because they might have lead.

Yeah I guess identifying the ingredients in edible goods are easier than products like playmats and things like that.

@cahaya1983 Some items look like candies that are not edible so we should really be mindful of these.
