Out the Door.

I am putting on my shoes, then I will head out the door for my interview. I am wearing a decent pair of slacks and a nice top and practical shoes. Polished my nails and will put on a little lipstick. I am keeping it simple. After my interview, I have to call the doctor's office for hubby. He does not hear as well on the cell phone as I do. Got a something going on. This is one of those days where I do not want to be late, but I do not want to be early either. Wish me luck. If I get this job I will be working in a structured class room, predominantly with a student who has autism. It is not so much a matter of earning money for me as it is a matter of doing something useful with my time and meeting more people in the community. I am sure I will be back later, even if it is only tonight. Have a great day or evening. It is Monday morning here.

Oh my gosh, Heather. You would be so good in that job. They HAVE to hire you. I have had lots of conversations with doctor's offices over the past several years, due to my folks' not hearing well. It used to be easier, their doctors' staffs have changed and they aren't as communicative. It's like pulling teeth to get the information we need. So I hope your communications with hubby's doctors offices is better. I'm sorry there is a something going on, I hope he's okay, Heather.. You don't need luck, you got the SKILLS! But good luck anyhow!

For the first time ever my education and experience is being counted. I am making about $3 an hour more than I anticipated. Of course some of it will go into state retirement, but I already have a small account there. Hubby will see the doctor Thursday at the end of day after work. He has what we think is a cyst but it has decided to grow.

Things went well. I like the teacher and the class only has four students. It encompasses many things I learned over the years in Head Start and other classrooms.

@celticeagle The things this teacher implements tells me she is all about the students, things for sensory input and combining physical surroundings with teaching.

The places I have worked are not charity, but yes, often they are not for profit. It is a good group of teachers and helpers I get to work with,

that actually sounds like a lovely job, potentially difficult, but easier once you learn that childs triggers and how to deal with the autistic, fits? not sure what the acceptable term for the meltdowns are

Meltdown works for the description. It is early in the school year. The person who was hired for this position has some stresses at home and was not familiar with the behaviors, etc. She quit with no notice. It is a small group of children I will work with, but the child I observed today is the most difficult.

It seems to be a great match all around. It will take a while to learn all the details of this classroom, but the teacher is great at what and how she does things.

They were really concerned that I get to observe and see what the classroom and the more difficult student would be like. The teacher said that this was a rough day, bu it did not seem too much of a problem. Just take things one minute at a time.

I have probably ten years classroom experience with special needs, and seven years bus. Then I have about six years experience with adults with special needs. It seems to be what I do best.

Actually what I needed was the structure to get me moving more, for my health. I would have been okay with the low end of the pay scale, but an ecstatic to be making about $3 more per hour than I expected. It gets lonely here during the day, so I needed to talk to physical people in the same room as me. I like my online stuff, but sometimes I need the eye contact and voice.

@GardenGerty You are pretty secluded in a small town and I could sure see getting lonely. I'm glad you found a church and some other activities. Being lonely is a rare problem for me!

Wishing you all the best! It never is easy when you need to work with special needs children, but if you are dedicated enough and are passionate about what you are doing, it probably will be not only a rewarding, but also a pleasant experience. May the odds be in your favor, if I may use the quote :)

I have worked with persons with special physical or mental needs for about twenty five years.I find it easier than some other jobs I have held. I think I will enjoy this position.
