This afternoon I have another appointment with my eye specialist about the coming cataract surgery. I needed more clarification on the whole thing as I am extremely nervous about it. I know that a lot of people had it and said that it was nothing but still, I have a lot of anxiety about it. The surgery is scheduled for September 21st. Can' wait that the specialist answers the specific questions on my list.

Your apprehension is perfectly normal. I was told by many people that it would a simple procedure, but I was still horrified at the prospect. Our greatest fear us the unknown. I was fully aware of what was happening around me, but felt no discomfort whatsoever. 20 minutes later I was being wheeled out and was amazed at how simple the whole thing was.

@vandana7 Yes it has, but it is still human nature to be concerned beforehand.

I hope that it all goes well with the surgery. I know how you feel though, as before my cataract surgery, people told me the same thing, and I was very apprehensive. The day of the surgery, I was petrified, but once I got in there and he started, the apprrehension went away, and I wasn't petrified anymore. There is nothing to it, and I know that sounds funny, but it is true, and I am sure it is hard to wrap your mind around it, but believe me, when I say, everything will be fine, and you will be glad that you did it. After I had my right eye done, I had to wait 3 weeks for my left eye, and I got anxious to have it done too. I must say, that I have had no problems and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

@marlina Oh good, I am glad. Once it is done, you will wonder why you didn't do it long ago. It is amazing how I can see things much more clearer now, as the colors are vi rant and not washed out,, and I only have to wear my reading glasses when I read, as I don't need glasses to drive or water tv. I am loving it that is for sure.

I would be too... any instrument in my eye would freak me out. I still haven't been able to get myself to agree to getting a LASIK eye surgery to correct my vision. You seem to be braver.

I had the surgery years ago, but for any medical problem, the best is to ask about everything.

I don't blame you, if you have questions to ask, make a list and get clarification on all of them. You will find that they will give you 2 prescriptions on that day, one for eye drops and the other will be pills. And you cannot over exert yourself while your eyes heal, that is paramount. These are things that I remember from when my mother had hers done 6 years ago, of course times and doctors can differ. So, clean the house as best you can, and then make up your mind to heal and not worry about the state of affairs in the house, and how bad can 2 people mess up a house anyways?

Thanks for your advice. I didn't know about "not exerting oneself" after the surgery. First time I hear this.

@marlina They told my mother that she needed to let the lens get settled on her eye before being too active so she didn't knock it off centre.

Any surgery is scary and when we think of the eyes we think! BUT I am sure everything will be okay, I know a million people who had it and can still see.

Your fears are absolutely unfounded. There is no way this surgery can go wrong unless the surgeon turns up drunk for it...dad has had cataract removed from both his eyes about 3 years ago..gosh how time flies..he can read without glasses now..he reads newspaper without glasses, uses laptop without glasses, watches tv without glasses..only anti glare glasses...no issues in driving late in night though we still avoid it.

You have all the right to ask and know, my mother had cataract operation and it was just local anesthesia and she was wide awake and went home after an hour, her blood pressure rose so they had to give her meds, she was in her 60s that time

Almost everyone around here has had that operation and nobody had complications except just one. And even hers turned out fine. I think mainly it's just annoying having to keep your head in a certain position afterward. I haven't had it yet, but since I'm 65 I know I will at some point.

I had both eyes done about five years ago with no problems at all. My wife had some complications that required her to use special drops for quite a while, but is fine now.

Hope I can bolster your morale by saying that even in my home country, Romania, it is quite a routine intervention. However, it is important that you avoid shedding tears and tripping over while in the convalescence period. Wishing you lots of heath!
