Antibacterial Soaps

I have known for years that antibacterial soaps were never really a good thing; as they can actually kill the good bacteria on our hands. Apparently the FDA has decided that too. They are banning 40% of the products that contain ingredients that may be more harmful than helpful. The 2 main chemicals that are to be banned are Triclosan and Triclocarban, which may actually cause hormone problems and mess with the Thyroid. For those folks with Immune Deficiencies or OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorders); cleanliness freaks, where you feel the need to wash your hands 50 times a day and use an entire bottle of the stuff, that's not good. Since the FDA feels more harm than good arises from using these kind of soaps, they recommend just washing with soap and water for 20 seconds. Well duh, that's how I was raised.
Say goodbye to those 'antibacterial' soaps. The FDA says they do little or nothing to make soap work better.

@amadeo wipes to wipe germs off your cart in a store is the biggest joke of all. You use the wipe. Go into the store and the germs are in the air and back on the cart.

Oh yeah @amadeo , you know those companies aren't going to be thrilled about the ban. There are so many products as well as medications that are unnecessary.

I just read about the antibacterial soap ban this morning, and my first thought was, "What took them so long to figure it out?" I stopped using antibacterial products years ago, knowing that it was probably doing more harm than good.

@nanette64 Yeah, I see people all around me who are "germaphobes," who insist on washing their hands or dumping hand sanitizer on themselves every two seconds. I tell both of my kids that the best way to keep from getting sick is to go out there and get those germs and microbes all over you, that's how your body builds a strong immune system! Neither of my kids ever get sick, and they're always dirty and muddy when they come inside from playing!

@moffittjc Perfect advice. That's like I don't do any shots either (well, maybe Rum once in awhile). Outside of the occasional Tetanus and that's only if I've been bitten by a dog.

I've never used the stuff @moffittjc, I'm a firm believer in going the natural way as much as possible. Now if only I could talk my ding-ding sister into it.

I just heard about this this morning too. I have only ever used 'ordinary' soaps. I wish they'd test these things a bit more before unleashing them on a gullible public.

That is a good decision to get rid of the anti antibacterial soaps from the market. It's good to know that they are just a waste of money.

More than likely @ms1864 . You'd have to read the label of ingredients to be sure. Plain soap and water is still the way to go.

I never realized how harmful they can be but it makes sense since clean, running water already kills many germs and bacteria in the first place.

We hardly know what our soaps have in them. And so using them is what everyone does without knowing the consequences thereof.

That's great that the FDA observed that there was a need to dis guard those products that could cause harm or weren't beneficial. There's some who prefer to keep their hands clean. Have a blessed holiday weekend.

In fact, our bodies could protect themselves against bacterial, if it is not serious, we'd better not to use antibacterial soap.
