How They Look Now After 30 Years!

I was a struggling sales leader for the largest life insurance company (Philippines) when this photo of our four children was taken. The oldest was 9 and the youngest, the girl, was 3. After our family reunion last month, our daughter gave me a copy of this "then-n-now" photo. It makes my heart sing looking at their picture. And, modesty aside, I really feel proud for what my wife and I have done to our 4 children. They love and care for each other. They don't gamble and smoke. They just drink wine on special occasions. And above all, they all graduated from college and have good jobs and happy families. We love them to pieces. Do you have group photos of your kids like this?

You raised them up very well and you have all the right to be proud . Was that Insular or Philam? I know they are the biggest here.

@louievill 35 years ago pre-need companies like PhilamPlans had just started. I think CAP was the first one. Never heard much about Philamlife. The last thing I heard about it was AIG was trying to sell it. Have not visited the Philippines for 25 years . . .

@jaboUK Hahaha! I was born poor. My late mother was just a housekeeper. My late father was a lowly janitor. My only sister and I had each just a pair of shoes and few clothes to wear when we were in the elementary grades. That may be the reason why I tried to learn things by myself. In high school I learned how to draw and paint by watching a local artist. That was how I learned how to draw and paint and eventually became a sign artist (painting signboards). That helped me a lot financially while in college. I befriended an old professional photographer. After graduating from college (Bachelor of Arts) at age 20, I worked as an office clerk for an insurance company. I bought my first SLR Nikkon camera. Eventually, I bought my first darkroom enlarger and started learning how to develop films and print pictures. When I felt I was ready to start a photo-n-art business, I quit my clerical job. It was a combination of photography and art (photography, painting, signboard-making, and t-shirt printing.) All of these I learned by myself. Maybe if my parents were well-to-do, I would have not have the inclination to learn these things when I was young. God may have given me this artistic talent (painting and photography) because my late mother and father were poor but religious/pious. My late mother used to attend mass everyday. And when we moved to Canada with my young family, I raised our 4 children the way my parents raised me. I was a bit strict on them but showed how much I cared and loved them.

@antonbunot We have two sons - one in Melbourne, Australia and one in Ireland. The one in Ireland is married but his wife won't fly and they can't have children. The son in Melbourne is not married. I can't believe they are 44 and 42 - that makes me very old!!!

@brokenbee hehehe! Well, our 4 children are very close to each other. Most likely because their age-gaps are so close. In the lower picture they were 7,6,5, and 3! In fact, the oldest is only 11 months older than the second. Kasla armalite a pomarotopot ti styleko idi! (English translation: I was like an armalite when I was young!)
