Are You A Picky Eater

Some people have sissy mouths. If food has a bold or spicy flavor, they reject it right away. Others are texture detectives. The mere thought of chomping into a mushroom or shrimp gets them retching. Some folks are food snobs. It has to be a certain brand or all bets are off. And then there are those who will never venture into new territory preferring instead to be safe in what mother has always prepared for them. I am picky in my own right because I don't eat red meat at all and mostly frown at chicken. Fried and fast food make my stomach quease. (By the way, "quease", it seems, is a questionably legitimate word but I like it ). Anything else is okay though and I don't mind trying new things. Hot and spicy is always welcome too. Are you a picky eater? Do you ever try new things?

Guilty as charged! I'm such a picky eater, you wouldn't believe. I'll only eat plain food without sauces, nothing foreign, no spices, and I'll never try anything new. So you'd better not invite me for dinner

@jaboUK - I do like my eggs and mash and I'll eat chips some too. (Chips for you are fries here, right?) So we could have dinner together after all :))

@suziecat7 I must be the world's worst, mustn't I? But give me steak and chips, egg and chips, sausage and mash, cottage pie and I'm happy

I like to think I'm pretty adventurous with food! I'm mostly not picky. My dad always said we have to be able to eat anything in front of us . . . in times of war and such, you don't have a choice - his attitude was eat or don't eat. I do try to pick healthier options, but I admit to eating the junky stuff every now and then .

When you're young, you can include some junk once in awhile. When you're older, not so much.

@suziecat7 Believe me, my body can't tolerate a lot of things like it used to . . . to much junky fast food turns me into a sloth!!

I am starting to love the word quease (and my spell check is starting to complain), because it rhymes with cheese and cheese makes me quease-ey. I used to not be picky. But moving to a multicultural country where there's heaps of other food choices, but nearly none of what I grew up on, my taste buds started to mind. Not to mention, I am sensitive to dairy so my dietary scope has become narrower and narrower. I find that I don't like curry-ish dishes, or any spice-laden food. All those sorts are alien to me. And what is alien to me gets pushed aside. I am my own worst nightmare now.

@suziecat7 Oh I am quite adventurous with food. I do "try" somehow. I just don't stick to something that had me nearly throwing up

I am a super picky eater, yes I have a sissy mouth. Lol. I don't like seafood, spicy foods or vegetables! I know that's not "healthy" but I haven't liked these things my whole life. And being healthy doesn't guarantee me a longer life anyway.

I avoided onions like the plague for all my life until I met Anne and she started sneaking cooked ones into things, then I discovered green onions in salads, and now, here I am eating raw onions on my burgers and a special tomato salad she made tonight. Otherwise, I am not too picky, but please, no beets.

I love onions any way they come. Glad Anne made you see the light there. I make a decent beet salad but I can understand people not liking them. They are different and sweet.

People with sissy mouths can't stand even a hint of heat or bold flavors in their food. They think their tongues are on fire. :))

i used to be quite adventurous with foods, these days not so much. 's fer those who reject those spicy/bold flavored foods? could be that such kills their tender tummies. i like 'quease', too :)

As tender as my stomach can be sometimes, I seem to be able to tolerate and enjoy spicy food. I think a lot of it is how you were raised. I've had customers tell me they hate fish, would never eat it and then admit they never tried it.

@crazyhorseladycx If you try it and hate it, that's one thing. But how can you hate something you never tried?

@suziecat7 i grew 'p eatin' hot'n spicy foods back'n the hills (my dad used to grow some 'mean' peppers, lol). when i came here, i got introduced to hatch green chili's 'n some others - absolutely loved 'em! i reckon those 3rd degree 'burns' 'nside my colon make such not'n enjoyable 'xperience. i've met some folks like that myself - who proclaim to dislikin' somethin' they've ne'er tried. 'r, like the son-in-law, swears he despises yellow squash. but he'll eat'n entire plate 'f squash 'fries' 'n ask fer more, lol.

There are some things, like sushi, that I don't care to try. I think mainly because I once heard if it isn't prepared properly it could kill you. But normally I'm not a real fussy eater. Of course, if I eat something I don't like I'm not too thrilled to try it again.

I am not a picky eater at all. I will try most things. I remember my mom always saying "how do you know you don't like it if you never tried it?" So I will at least give it I try. I find some foods taste better then you thought they would and other foods that look good didn't taste all that great.

No, I am not at all a picky eater. I like most kind of food, but it must be well prepared, fresh and not greasy . I eat very little and I do not like garbage food.

Not at all, me, my hubby and my kids, pretty much eat anything that does not eat us first. I think it comes from having a small food budget. It's on sale, lets try it.

I'm not a picky eater, but there are foods I absolutely dislike and won't touch no matter what. I have tried new foods and sometimes they surprise me by my liking them. I prefer to stay within my comfort zone of foods and only really venture out at potlucks.
