The Circle of the Clock

The hands go round. They slip past the 12 and plunge me, unprepared, into Wednesday. I shouldn't have to see this. My eyes should be closed and instead of sitting at a keyboard, I should be swaddled in my bed linens, my head upon my pillow.
Not being asleep. It's fine when the sun is up. It's fine when you are talking late into the night to friends. But it's just wrong to be awake when you wanted to be asleep. Then, not being asleep is the worst thing you can experience.
When I couldn't sleep the other night, I gave up, made a cup of tea and sat at the computer for a bit to change the dynamic. Staying in bed, tossing and turning, trying every conceivable position and angle of pillow, only to be frustrated by continued consciousness makes it impossible to reach the relaxed state necessary. I just need to break the cycle. Or the circle. Or the clock.
What do you do when you can't sleep?

@JESSY3236 you made me laugh about the names. It's true that a good collection of those this one begat that one verses will definitely make one drowsy.

Sometimes I use my sleeplessness to pray. Then if I fall asleep, it's in the presence of God which is very comforting.

Obviously insomnia has brought me to my keyboard and mylot. I think I'm about ready to try again.

When I can't sleep I will usually get up and spend some time on here until I get tired. I usually have a glass of milk and just try to relax. Some nights are better then others. Some night I fall asleep quickly while other night I just can't seem to unwind and if I don't get up I will just toss and turn all night long.

I've been like that lately, too. Have you tried any herbal remedies? I'm too tired right now to remember which ones, but I've been told they work.

I have found myself here until that moment when I know sleep will no longer elude me.

i will apply facial mask sheets... the scent from the mask as well as the cooling feel normally helps in getting me into a more relaxed state...
