Who drinks water or pees in the middle of the night?

My biggest annoyance is when I have to wake up and go pee! My eyes are shut then I have to open them, lug myself to the restroom, turn on the lights and go pee! *The lights wake me up* and as I crawl back to bed I have a hard time sleeping As far as drinking water, I keep a bottle on my night stand and once in awhile I'll be thristy but not always. How are you with water and peeing in the middle of the night? Any pet peeves? Stories?

I always drink water before bed. I know it will make me have to get up and pee in the middle of the night (which it does every time), but if I don't drink water before bed, I wake up in the morning dehydrated and with a scratchy, itchy throat. It just helps me feel better when i wake up in the morning, although I really hate having to get up and pee at night!

Yes its important to get enough water in our bodies or we'll be dehydrated. :) Even if I pee in the middle of the night by morning I'll have to pee again! Lol.

@infatuatedbby I'm the same way! Still have to pee badly every morning when I wake up! But that's because I drink a lot of water!

I don't have this problem. But when I was pregnant, it was quite normal for me to go to the bathroom at the midnight. I think it is a little bothering if you have to wake up at the midnight and go to the bathroom. I heard that eating some peanuts (with red skin) will be helpful, but I am not quite sure about it. It seems it is a kind of traditional Chinese medical treatment.

A high protein snack like the peanuts @youless is supposed to help keep your blood sugar stable so you do not have to go pee in the middle of the night..

I generally don't drink water in the middle of the night, but there are times in these hot dry nights I wake up to a cough/choke - so then I need to get water. But I don't turn on any lights . . . we have a nightlight for the kids in the bathroom - so that's plenty of light for me to do my business .

@infatuatedbby Well if it were dark, the spider wouldn't have seen you coming to sit on him anyway . My husband is actually the one who says he needs to have full light or he can't pee . . . but then he can't go back to sleep either.

Oh yes , i drink water when i awaken because my throat is dry already since i sleep with slightly open mouth . And because of that , i pee a lot too . But because our comfort room is outside of our bedroom , hubby and i have each a covered bedpan on which we pee . There's a light outside , so we can see it but not enough to awaken our senses well , so we get to sleep at once , once we are done peeing .

@infatuatedbby No, it's by the dining room and another one at the second floor . We have five bedrooms in all and none have comfort rooms in them , so we use a bedpan when we go to sleep .

Guilty as charged! But I don't pee on bed, if that's what you are asking. Whenever I wake up in the middle of the night to go use the washroom, I sneak around and tip toe outside (that's where the washroom is) I am also very scared of the dark so I am looking in several directions while making my way too the loo. I can't turn on the lights coz that disturb others sleep. I use a flash light or my cell phone. And man every time...every single time Mom or Dad would speak up in the otherwise dark silent night and simultaneously scare the sh*t out of me.

Hahaha. Are you sure you don't wet the bed now that you mentioned it? I sometimes use my phone when its dark too. I try not to make too much noise to not wake up my parents but I am sure they hear me once I flush the toilet, lol. It would scare me when my parents' pop out of no where also!

@infatuatedbby No I don't wet the bed. I checked this morning. Our toilet is built outside in the verandah so no flushing noises to disturb.

Even without water, I'm up peeing in the middle of the night usually at least a half dozen times. And that's not before I go to bed. Before I fall asleep I go at least 4 or 5 times my husband says I pee at least 8 times before I go to bed (I know who's right).

I don't pee that often, but even if I pee before bed, in the middle and when I wake up. I do pee frequently throughout the day more compared to my boyfriend though. :P

Turning on the light programs your body clock to get up again the next night at the same time. Get a nightlight. I am old. I get up a lot, sometimes. Not so much lately. I usually get a drink of water after I use the bathroom.

I get up in the middle of the night, but its not far from my side of the bed to the bathroom, and I have a very dim nightlight in there, so it helps me see, but it doesn't totally blind me.

That is good to have a night light. I may need to put a sensor one so I don't turn on the light blaring in eye.

@Juliaacv Yes that is good enough to make sure there are no spiders! Happened once I didn't turn on a light, I almost sat on a spider. Now I turn it on all the time and no spider.

@infatuatedbby That's what we have in our little bathroom off of our bedroom, they don't cast a harsh low, just very soft light.

I take a bp med with a diuretic - so I up to pee at least times a night, some nights even more. If I don't take the diuretic my feet swell. We have fancy night lgihts which provide enough light to find the toilet LOL

A nightlight in the bathroom means I don't need to turn on the lights. I only open one eye to keep from colliding with anything. Usually I fall right back to sleep.

@infatuatedbby mine is an LED light. Cost to run, about $0.03 per year. It's also got a sensor so it isn't on during the day.

@thelme55 Yes! It was :) And I learned a few new things about other parts of the world. One from India I believe said he has to go outside and lock the doors! Then goes out there then comes back in just to use the restroom. Interesting!

drink pee and repeat
Me too! I have no idea why I have to go to pee in the middle of the night while other people might not have to do that. But if I'm not drinking much water before sleep, then I will wake up too because of thirsty. Since I stopped to drink other water (include coffee and tea), I can go to pee up to 8-10 times a day! Well, back to the topic, when I go back to the bed, I can't hold my hand to not checking my phone for couple times, so I don't feel sleepy anymore.

Yes! I don't often pee but lately I have. I totally am with you.. when I go back and since I'm awake - I will look at my phone then I won't feel sleepy anymore. BUT ONCE my alarm goes off I go darn I am now tired should have went back to bed.

I unfortunately drink too much coffee @infatuatedbby so therefore, I'm going every 15 minutes during the day but at night, you can be sure there is a 3am calling. For me, I never turn on a light when I go. I know exactly how many steps and what direction I need to go to visit the Porcelain God.
