Hello Jack!

He's here again. Mr. Jack O Lantern will preside over the deck for a couple of weeks before he goes back to his hidey hole in the closet.
We had a pretty good frost last night. I've picked one tomato bush clean and picked clean hubby's hot pepper bush. More needs picking. But first I made a no sugar apple pie for tonight's supper. (Vegie soup is simmering on the stove so I do not plan a totally heathen meal.)
I hate to say goodbye to the tomato bushes. Instead of crying over spilt milk I will cry over warm apples in a tasty crust.

I pulled our plants out kast week. The last plants are piled in the wheelbarrow with the tomatoes still on them It is keeping the tomatoes separate from each other and I can easily monitor them ripening.
Hubby would surely prefer to see them neatly arrayed in the basement bu I am happy with my lazy method. The dining room table is covered with tomatoes in various stages of ripeness, the ones I picked before ripping out the last plants. The good thing is they are ripening nicely.
Yesterday I dug under the snow to dig up the last of the carrots. Now what to do with them.

@sallypup No, not pleasant. it was devastating but one finds out that it is people who matter not things and then we just move on but occasionally like this I will try to remember if it was before or after. It was a defining moment for sure.

@BelleStarr My family's cabin burned when my daughter was quite young. We had quite a hard economical time as well as emotional time for years.

@celticeagle We're going to freeze stuff. Even green tomatoes have some flavor.

I would decorate but no money to spend on that sort of thing right now and she who owns the home isn't big into that sort of thing. I will have a tree at christmas, but it will prob live on my dresser or something

@Jessicalynnt Find a kid and borrow his drum set. When Halloween arrives, head into the night beating the drum. Sometimes it feels fantastic to let loose and make a lot of racket.

No frost here in the valley yet. Apple pie sounds good.
