What's for dinner he asked?

Usually around ten am my husband asks what I want for dinner. He asks because we keep most of our meat in the freezer that is in the garage and I don't mess with that freezer. My answer was, "Grilled chicken sandwich with lettuce, tomato and Honey mustard dressing." , To which he said, "So we're going down the road." That's right - down the road into town and to the Rocky Top Cafe. We used to dread going there on a Friday or Saturday since they were usually busy and the service used to be very slow. With the new management and lots of training they have improved their service time considerably. This is our go-to joint....just a small place that has been at least three different restaurants in recent history. A lot of folks don't like it, they say their prices are too high. But there are those like us who think the prices are fine and with the new and improved service a great pale to eat. And its only 8 miles away and the only decent place in town. Do you have a local joint that is your go-to place for a reasonably priced meal? Photo is mine.

Sounds like a wonderful little spot. I just got back from my go-to place. My fiance met there for lunch. It is a small family business with three generations working there. It is nice to see them all working beside each other. The food is really good and the prices are half of what you would pay at other restaurants. Have a nice date with hubby and enjoy your sandwich!

We like variety - so we have many go-to spots (well heck, if there is any opportunity that I don't have to cook - any place is a fine go-to spot for me ). We actually just found a "new" go to spot . . . a bbq place - and kids eat free there on Sundays. I didn't think the kids would like it (they hate bbq sauce) so we hadn't ventured in there . . . but recently we tried it much to their dismay and they ended up loving it ! Lots of bbq meats plus the fixings . . . not cheap, but with the kids-eat-free deal it's perfect! PLUS they have free soft serve ice cream for those dining in !

We have a local restaurant, The Hitchin' Post that has a wonderful buffet. We often go there for lunch after Church.

We love buffets but unfortunately not any really good ones except for an hour away.

That's a little further than we have to go...but if we want a big name restaurant then it's 45 mins to an hour to get to one.

We haven't found a place like that here yet. We did have a place where we used to live, I miss it! Good food, 2 friends owned the place and good prices.

@AbbyGreenhill That must be nice to have a place like that. Here too there are two or three places like that. The only thing lacking is " reasonably priced".They are a little pricey,so we do not go often.

we go to a lot of pricey places but in our area there aren't any - we're lucky to have what we have.

We do. One of our local pubs has a steak night every Tuesday - you get a decent steak with all the trrimmings and a drink for £8. At today's rate that's less than $10. We go every week.

We love to eat out - early on when we stopped working and moved south we couldn't afford to so we are making up for it now.

We're mostly not eating out much these days. We are going to a Thai cafe tonight cause it serves vegetarian options. I'm sure the salt content will be high, though.

Never got into that kind of food, which is probably good since there aren't any around.

@sallypup I don't eat fast/junk places - I gave up fried foods and grease 35 years ago.

@AbbyGreenhill I can't eat at American food places these days and probably never again. Places like Sharis and Dennys will clog up my arteries in jig time.

The Farmhouse - on the side street (off 411) it's still there. They have a fantastic lemon pie. We went there when we lived in Cleveland since it was a straight shot of 411 - now it's more than an hour to get there.

I love eating out but happens rarely.Choosing a favourite place to me always depends on what i plan on eating, so l have to decide on the food before leaving the house. Best steak (in my opinion) in ca 40 minutes away.Best seafood is can30 minutes away, best pizza,5 minutes on foot from my place, for anything else, any place will do really. But since we rarely eat out, if we do, then it`s to my favoutite restaurant for a specific food.

If I was going to eat prime rib or a good steak, then we pick the restaurant for sure since not many have either.

@miniam We found a butcher who sells really good steak and it's far better than any restaurant - but we paid a lot for the steak.
