Something in a discussion here got me thinking about myLot, its members and their anonymity. Much of what you, we, write here on myLot can be used to pull together a profile on you - your likes and dislikes, your sense of humo(u)r, where you live, what your gender is, how old you are, who your family members are and what they call you... Trying to hide behind the mask of anonymity is like trying to herd cats - stuff about you leaks out, like it or not. Anonymity, like virginity, once lost, can never be reclaimed... do you care?

Yes, I know that info is revealed about us but being aware of what you put out there can control that profile. Plus you can fool people. You may say you like something even when you don't just for the sake of getting along or join a conversation.

So each of us is fooling the other... I had not considered that, but it is a possibility.

I really have nothing to hide. I am who I am and I'm an open book so it doesn't bother me. =)

And some will read you like a book, too - skipping past the boring bits, taking a peek at the back page...

I do not care, there are things that I will never share, but I know very well that what is shared is public and anonymity does not exist in our days.

@pgntwo Thank you, I surely will love to read this book. Too many are obsessed to share every moment of their life. When I log into my FB account I can clearly see who are those who have to post from early morning up to the moment they go to sleep. It's ridiculous.

@LadyDuck I borrowed the copy I read from the library, not sure if it is available as an electronic book, if the Kindle or similar is your thing.

Sounds like you might appreciate this book - a dystopian view of a population obsessed with, if not forced to, sharing every moment of their hum-drum lives...

@pgntwo I've often wondered about the use of the verb 'to lose' in the realm of virginity. I always saw it more as a getting rid of rather than a loss. Curious.

I don't like to give out my name, as some of my opinions expressed here may differ (slightly) from my public persona. I want to keep my jobs. Heh. Maybe I'll post a profile picture that is really me...but just for a little while.

Today I was ruminating about a post.... on how much you really know me. My answer is, not much. You infer from what I say. But as the book I had planned to mention said -"Every character needs a history. We create a character, so we create the history too" It's not verbatim.

I´m too old to go around wearing a mask that is, unless you promise that said mask will make me at least 30 years younger. I like what I am and I don´t regret many things so, why hide?

No..it does not matter to me. A couple of myLotters have met me, so they know what they see is what they get. Yeah some of the things that I have said here need to be authenticated I suppose. But I would think that is not necessary unless we are that close. It would not affect our interactions.

@MALUSE .. No.. I think we should. But I also feel some may not be able to attend, especially ladies. Traveling alone is rather unsafe.

Sometimes, yes, pgn... most of the time, no..... I have no worries about what another myLotter will find out about me, but companies on the internet, yeah, I kinda do care what they know.... Don't get me wrong,.... I KNOW my information is out there should someone want it and if they are savvy enough to go get it... Heck! I will tell people anything about myself someone wants to know... I've done that several times.

It is ridiculous to try to hide information. Companies want to know your set of friends. If they don't they won't hire you. As simple as that. It actually works the negative way. But some do remain very private, and I respect their privacy.

Untangling the web of truths, untruths and misdirections would be a challenge, yes, I grant you. Some data collection bot somewhere is doing just that, I'd hazard a guess. Ah well, bigger the fool that believes what the bot tells him/her :)

I never try to hide behind the anonymity of this or any other online site. What you see is what you get with me. I am an open book, and I am just the same in person as you see me on here. I don't try to change the way I am or disguise who I am. You either like me for who I am, or you don't! But I agree, some people may hide behind the anonymity, or may pretend to be something (or someone) different from who they really are. Either way, I don't judge anyone.
