Getting ready for the new refrigerator.

With everything going on in my life...getting ready for the elections (I work on the elections board), finishing teddy bears for a craft show on the 12th of November, and trying to sort and clean up the house my refrigerator decided to die. I had hoped for it to last a few more weeks...until things settled down in my life. No such luck. It died on Monday and we went in Wednesday to shop for a new one. My Boy Friend decided to buy it for me, and I was informed rather firmly NOT to check price tags but concentrate on the refrigerator and making sure that it was what I "WANTED". We went to the local Lowes store and I found the one I liked almost immediately. I looked up to check how many square feet that the fridge had and my boyfriend immediately reined me up sort about checking price tags. I had to silence him by telling him that I was looking for the cubic feet that the fridge had and not the price (I wasn't entirely honest....I was also checking the price). I finally decided on the fridge. It's a 21 cubic foot Maytag unit. I lucked out big time as the fridge was marked down to under $700 (which is the budget I had set for a new fridge). We did all the paperwork and asked when it could be delivered. The sales person asked if we had a working fridge and I replied "No" and she promptly checked the delivery schedule and found that today was out but they could deliver on Friday. Score big time! So, I realized that I had to empty out the old fridge and deal with all the spoiled food and other stuff. I don't like cleaning out fridges and I was in awe at how much my tiny fridge held. I have my counters full of containers of food that needs to be disposed of. I still have more to go through, including the freezer and the deli drawers. What is even more aggravating is that the fridge is working again, when previously the only part of the fridge that worked was the interior light. But I'm not too upset about that as the fridge I have is 12 years old and it is about due to be replaced. Friday I need to do the "big round up" and catch and confine 11 cats. I plan to put them in the back bedroom where they will be safe and secure. I'm definitely NOT looking forward to doing the round up, but I would rather have my cats safe and secure rather than scattered all over the place. Sigh, back to clearing out the old fridge and dealing with cleaning it so I don't look like a total slob.

"...don't look like a total slob." -- To whom? Do you think the workmen will mind? Women often complain that they have too much to do in the house. But they mostly do it only for themselves.

You're right! I worry too much about how the house looks and I really shouldn't. I do worry that I'll look like some of the people on the news both online and on TV...their houses look like an annex to the city dump. Mine isn't that bad, but it still does look less than neat and tidy. I have too much fun visiting with people and working on the teddy bears to worry a lot about the mess around the house. I've already taken two loads to the American Vets donation site for their thrift shop.....I'm planning to donate a ton more to them too. As you say, all the work is for me and no one else. For me it's getting the clutter down to a manageable level. I'm going to do a $5 bet with Bill that I'll get the house, patio, shed, and the lower yard cleaned up and neatened by December 15th. I plan to start the 15th of November. Besides, the workmen don't come to inspect the house, they come to deliver the appliance and get back to their job. I've heard many times that they don't come to inspect the house, that they come to do their job and continue on to the next job. Thank you for reminding me of what to worry about...and it isn't the condition of my home and how it reflects in the eyes of the outsider. It helped a LOT!

With this new fridge you don't have to worry about any problems of it not wanting to work.

I think that the major problem with the old refrigerator not working is from the big fire we had back here in September. The power went out and I think when it came back there was huge power surges that blew out the refrigerator. I am really looking forward to the new refrigerator. I can make ice cubes too! The freezer is larger than the one I have now so I will have room for ice cube trays. Also with the new refrigerator I am getting a 6 year warrantee which will cover everything including $250 worth of food. So, I should be totally covered for everything with the new refrigerator.

Congratulations on the new Maytag! Now, let's not stuffed it to the brink, shall we?
