Look What I Found This Morning

We have a little visitor this morning on our balcony. It's a little tree frog and the poor thing looks scared to death. I don't know how he got up on the second floor unless he climbed. He must have been very determined. We are leaving him alone right now in the hopes that he will find his way back home. If he is still there this afternoon, I will see if there is a way we can catch him and put him back on the ground where he belongs. Neither of us will pick him up so I guess I will have to find a container of some kind to capture him in. I'm afraid he will die if he stays there too long. By the way, the picture makes him look bigger than he really is. Isn't he cute?

How do you know that it's a 'he'?

@yukimori I learnt at school and later I taught it at school that in English only animals who're pets and have a name are 'he' or 'she'. All others are 'it'.

@ChesneyM What? What do the animal protection people have to do with the rules of the English grammar?

It reminds me of the surprise I got one day when I went to go sit on the John and over in the bathtub was this itty-bitty frog. How he got there I don't know but when I got done with my 'business' I scooped him up and took him outside @simone10 .

I bet that was a little freaky, wondering how it got in. Did you ever have anymore get inside?

@nanette64 That's good to hear. I would be afraid that if a frog got inside, a snake could too.

@simone10 I was thinking the same about the color. Usually, frogs are greenish in color.

@allen0187 Yes, they usually are green in color, even the normal tree frogs. I'm not sure what kind it was.

Poor little frog. You can always pick it up, just wear gloves.

Could it have escaped from a childs aqarium? My nephews used to get frogs from their parents on birthdays and when they neglected them their mom just set them free, probably not a nice thing to do to those poor things as they were born in captivity.

Oh wow @simone10 I'll bet that's different. Naturally there aren't any frogs in these parts.

@rebelann We have frogs everywhere here in the summer. You can hear them at night, especially when it rains.

I don't think so as we have a lot of tree frogs here that live in our many trees.

@simone10 I am glad it was not injured, I think it's time to hibernate for the frogs.

He is very cute and much paler then I would have expected. You could use gloves to grab him.

I agree, he is very pale in color. I never thought of gloves but I don't know if I could have done that as I would still be able to feel it. He did get back on the ground though.

I don't think it was an albino but you never know. I know that tree frogs here have some weird coloring.

I bet he'll be on his way before long. It's probably a bit too chilly for him this morning. Considering that they've evolved to hang out in trees I'd imagine he's perfectly content hanging out there on the railing. Was there a light on that could have drawn him in with the promise of tasty bugs?

He actually never moved for a couple of days. I was getting worried so I tried to capture him to help the little thing out. He started jumping and jumped right off the balcony. I was so scared but he survived.

what a cutie! i hope that't got down'n 'ts own :) but'cha ne'er know 'bout these critters. sometimes they're hades bent to be where they ought not. a box works well'n these kinda circumstances - with either a lid 'r dust pan to ensure 't doesn't leap'n fall to 'ts demise.

I wonder if a bird dropped him and he survived on your deck. I would cover him with a tea towel and move him to a tree... Cool photo.

I never thought of that but it could have happened. I am too afraid to try and pick it up with a towel but when I did try and capture it, it jumped off. Fortunately it wasn't hurt.

Whoa! Thats a huge frog! I recently found one - a little smaller - in my mail box. I also wouldnt touch him so luckily my roommates would! Maybe he will get down himself and you wont have to worry about using the container.

There were a lot of stink bugs so I don't know if that is what he was after or not. He had to have climbed up to the second story. After a couple of days and he didn't leave, I tried to help him but he jumped right off the balcony. He was okay though.

Maybe if you get a newspaper you can coax him onto that and then lead him down to where he'd be safe.

Yes..he's cute. And frogs are pretty much like cats..they don't see before making any steps. They just do it for then..and then are stuck When I was a kid, I saw a frog on our huge bucket. The water was mid length and the frog was floating above the mug. I just reached my hand mid length to it and the frog hopped on my hand and found a way out. That frog was pretty smart using my hand. I wasn't that smart..I don't know till now what I wanted to do with my hand there..but I am pretty glad that somehow the frog got help..:)
