We're Happy it's Over!

And so is Doodles, the cat! Halloween. We had bags of candy, but no trick or treaters. Not one! What we did have were loud fireworks in the center of our little town. There are still leaves on our trees, so I couldn't see them. However, they went on forever it seemed. This was a first, and must have frightened the little ones who were out. Our grandkids enjoyed Gracie Mansion Halloween on Friday in New York City, a sleepover and a Halloween pancake breakfast at their cousin's house and at an aquarium in Connecticut on Saturday and Sunday, and then celebrated it with friends back in Manhattan on Halloween, all without fireworks! How was Halloween night in your area?

We did not see a single trick or treater until like 730pm! They started out quite late .. Your grandkids look adorable and sounds like they had a great weekend!

Interesting that you mentioned fireworks! Someone in my neighborhood was setting off fireworks as well, the first time I've ever seen or heard fireworks on Halloween. Leave it to us Americans...we'll always find an excuse to blow stuff up! Next thing you know, Halloween will be like New Years Eve or the 4th of July! lol

@DianneN Wouldn't it be easier to just go to Lake Worth Beach? We'd save a lot of money that way! Money we could then spend on an afternoon of shopping on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach!

@moffittjc I've partied in Rio and it's true! They have a massive New Years Eve celebration and the fireworks were the best I've ever seen in my life! Everyone must wear white and go to the beach. My kind of everything. We should go there after lunch in Lake Worth. Lol!

They are so cute in their Halloween costumes! I had our usual pool of candy left on the porch . . . but through our camera system notifications, we saw that there was barely a handful of trick or treaters that came to the door . Our street was dark - I was sad that no one bothered to decorate their yards except us - and so the street looked even darker and I think no one bothered to go through it. We went trick or treating with the kids and we had to take them a couple streets over before there was any real action going on. No fireworks here - but it's more a couple weeks before and after July 4th that people do their fireworks in the neighborhood at wee hours of the night (and they're not supposed to have fireworks!!). Anyway . . . other than that, the kids had a great Halloween - and that's all that matters!

@DianneN Wow, that's a lot of traffic if the cops are there! There is a very nice neighborhood up in the hills . . . apparently all the houses take the time to decorate out there - and the streets were filled with kids to the point where kids were actually lining up at houses to get their treats! Now that's the kind of Halloween I remember as a kid!

I'm happy your kids had a great Halloween. That's how it should be. There is a street behind our woods that seems the place to go. My kids went there, too. They now have police to monitor traffic. My friend lives there and had a little dinner party on Halloween a few years ago. I could NOT believe the number of kids they got, nor the number of bags of candy they had to have.

Fireworks usually aren't fun for pets, glad it's over for you and Doodles. Our night was okay besides our drunk friend that went trick or treating with us-that was annoying.

@DianneN It was terrible! My oldest was the only one that knew what was wrong with her. The others are younger so they didn't have a clue. My one dog is the same way. She's scared of her shadow because the people that had her before us beat her. =(

I just read about your drunk friend. That was awful of her to do. I hope the kids didn't realize she had been drinking. Doodles is afraid of anything loud, including thunder and my husband's footsteps- lol!

Quiet. No treater's...no fireworks. Church's in our area do trunk or treat so most home owners don't get candy.

@DianneN We are spread out as a farming community so this works best. When we first lived here before they did this, the most treater's we got was 7. The church across from us said they had 1800 on Monday. We'd be broke if we had 1800 kids show up!!!

It was a quiet night no fireworks and less than 20 kids. No older kids came later, it was a slow year for sure.

Halloween is very muted here in the retirement community where I live. I saw pictures of all our grandkids in their costumes, and we all dressed up for our Monday exercise classes here in our retirement community, but that was about it. Your grandkids looked adorable!

I'm not surprised you had a quiet Halloween living in a retirement community. Seeing photos of the grandkids is always fun. What on earth did you dress in to exercise?

I was out shopping at the beginning of it, and didn't see very many kids out and about. My building is secure so none here. Nice and quiet. No fireworks. I'm sure Doodles is happy that is over with.
